15 lbs was a pretty big ask back in that time. Plus, the money was probably better at middleweight. No reason for him to move up

Every once in awhile, somebody needs to start a thread to cut through the levity on this board and create pure frivolity.

    This is it. And thanks.

I think he should start a new thread about how Ray Leonard ducked Qawi and Spinks,,,

    OK, seriously.

I have no problem with Hagler not fighting Spinks.

Hagler was not a big middleweight (with today's extra day to hydrate I bet he could make 154 in the modern era) and he'd chosen to fight in the division he was naturally suited for. As some have said, why didn't Spinks boil down to 160, if he wanted the fight that much? I personally think the weight difference would have been too much for either of them to have had a fair fight. Maybe 168 catchweight? I dunno.

I agree that a fighter can't "duck" a guy from another weight class. That's sheer desperation to throw shade on a fighter, much how (some) people in General insist Golovkin ducked Ward even though they are different weight classes.

FWIW, if Hagler HAD gone up to 175, I think Spinks would have simply been too big and awkward for him.

I always wanted him to fight Spinks and it would have proved a lot, since Leonard, Hearns, Duran, Benitez all moved up, but he didn't duck him. Marvin stayed in his division and fought everyone. That is not ducking him. He didn't want to be at a disadvantage.

Hagler was a career Middleweight. It really is that simple.
The challenge from Spinks always seemed to be more about gaining publicity than a genuine call out, anyway.

Also - as an aside - I don't think that, even under today's weigh-in and rehydration rules, Hagler would have been anything but a career Middleweight.

This is almost as bad as the time someone knocked Mayweather for ducking Golovkin.

    Total BS post.

NOBODY pushed for a Marvin Hagler/Michael Spinks fight.

It was never pushed for by the press, fans, etc. at the time.

Hagler/Hearns was demanded for and delivered.

Spinks moved up to HW in 1985 shortly after Hagler brutalized Hearns.

Leonard became the next superfight opponent for Hagler.

And maybe Tony Zale should be the Man of Copper instead of the Man of Steel
