I don't get people criticising Marvin Hagler, I really don't. He fought EVERYBODY.

Mugabi, Hamsho & Hearns were all equipped to deliver a beat down, they threw the same punches that stopped other boxers, but Hagler was a master at breaking down bullies. We don't know how hurt he really was...He didn't give us a message that he was hurt...all his life

If you can't make whatever point you want to make about whatever modern fighter without resorting to such nonsense as denigrating the likes of Marvin Hagler, your point isn't worth making.

I really do apologize and all I wanted to do was to shine some light on how crazy it is to compare the 2. The facts are Hagler had it worse when it came time to get his title shots that the U.S. Congress almost got involved and when he beat Minter , who used race during their build up ( https://www.theguardian.com/sport/t...an-miller-marvin-hagler-1980-boxing-low-point ) the British crowd threw **** at him. When has anyone thrown **** at Golovkin at any of his fights.

I really didn't want it to seem like an attack on Hagler but, Hagler is guilty of not fighting many guys waiting on that Leonard payday. One big stand out is Mike McCallum.

The GGG thing is great debate for boxing and keeps the fans busy until someone comes to fill those slots left open by the last era. Canelo is all by himself for the moment and GGG does not have long, maybe, but comparing the guy to Hagler is wrong.

GGG doesn't need to discredit God, Capitalism, Gravity or Hagler.

All he has to do is to go beat Saunders (winnable), maybe few title defenses & his legacy is sealed.

Yeah, that's all fair enough. Golovkin in Hagler's era going through all of what he did (and being a minority like him, esp. in a time like that) probably wouldn't have seen his talents alone carry him to where he got today, safe to say. (now watch the GGG army come swarming over me like fire ants on a picnic basket. Oh well. Truth is truth)

Hagler vs. McCallum is so mouth-watering to even imagine, goddamn.

I liked Hagler, thought he won the fight against Leonard, so did Stallone's brother, they were at ringside, I was on the promoter's bus while talking to him, Wynton Marsales told me he was at that fight ringside and that he though that Hagler won. I read that Leonard was owned by the Gambino family, so it would make sense that he would get the judges decision. Duran started as a featherweight, became the best light weight champion in boxing history, but going all the way up to middleweight was incredible and almost beat Hagler over 15 rounds. He beat Barkley who was so much bigger than he. If Duran had trained instead of eating, drinking, partying he would have been unbeatable!

GGG draws a lot of comparisons to Hagler. How the rose tinted goggles crowd refuses to accept that is comedy in itself.

That's as maybe, but you can definitely see the parallels between the two. People weren't exactly lining up to fight Golovkin either.

That's because Hagler was as friendly as a thundercloud, and because Golovkin goes out of his way to try to charm people with his aw-shucks act. Britain still has a large underclass of yobbos, and if they get riled up you'll get the same result even today.

Hagler / McCallum would have been good, I'll grant that.

If you're talking about greatness then yeah, it's true that Golovkin doesn't have Hearns & co to lift up his resume. A couple of things about that.

    1) Golovkin left it too late to start his pro career. He should have jumped in 3-5 years earlier.
    2) Golovkin's first promoter was worth a bag of soggy dicks. Years wasted there.
    3) Give it a few years to see where he stands, exactly. Guys like Jacobs, Lemieux, Brook, Canelo are not yet done in their own careers.
    4) I'd say GGG has maybe 3 years left at a very high level. 9-12 fights. A lot of things can happen in 9-12 fights.

Most great fighters dare to be great. when you get that opportunity you have to take the shot, In the words of yogy bear "whos that knocking ...........It cant be opportunity because it only knocks once" When Bhop calls you out go for it, when ward calls you out go for it.

So dont tell me what hagler is without this guy or that guy, its not the case. Hagler dared to be great and when opportunity knocked he answered and was annointed ATG HOF.

GGG rock solid fighter that did not answer the knock of greatness.

PS little green horn Canelo age 23 answered the knock took the shot against ATG Money.

I don't know you and how old you are, but I was around at that time. And I can honestly say that Mike McCallum is full of ****. A Hagler McCallum fight was never on the cards. Never. There was no buzz about it. No discussion concerning it. McCallum didn't fight for a middleweight strap as he was campaigning at 154 until a year after Hagler retired, and Mike even lost that fight. He can **** and moan all he wants, but he is full of it. I'm just curious. Just what guys is Hagler guilty of not fighting while waiting on the Leonard payday? McCallum is certainly NOT one of them. But what other ones according to you?
