Yeah, it's kind of like the whole Leonard vs. Pryor legend IMO. Looking in hindsight it would've been nice but it wasn't like it was some built up thing at the time that contemporary fans were really expecting to happen. It wasn't like the Mayweather vs. Pacquiao of its day or anything .

Ya. Very strange stuff. Around the time Hagler was fighting Leonard, McCallum was fighting Donald Curry at 154. You know, the same Curry that had been stopped by Ragamuffin Man at 147 BEFORE McCallum fought him. And who did McCallum fight before Curry? He fought the same McCrory at 154 that had been stopped by CURRY at 147. When it comes to Hagler, McCallum is so completely full of ****. Problem is people actually believe McCallum.

Be all that as it may, if you gave me a time machine and the omnipotence to snap my fingers and make the fight happen, I'd be sitting front row on the edge of my seat with goosebumps at the opening bell.

Me too. But in 86 (And before. Look at the Roldan fight), it was clear that Marv's footspeed and reflexes were gone. The way Mugabi was landing early, if Hagler didn't have a granite chin, it would have been nighty night.

Yeah, that's why I rankle so much at the suggestion that Leonard emerged from retirement to "embarrass" some active, daisy-fresh version of Hagler. If anything the deck was stacked in Leonard's favor.

Leonard was cagey. Read Steve Marantz's book Sorcery at Caesar's. He clearly lays the whole thing out. I remember most of that stuff quite well.

Haven't seen that one. Presume you've got Kimball's 4 Kings? (who doesn't? practically boxing gospel canon)

If you take Hagler, Duran and Hearns from Leonard's resume I think you have the same 'problem' minus SRL having all of his top opponent's move up to face him.

Anyway... the marvellous one has always been my favourite fighter since I was a child and my dad told me about meeting him prior to him demolishing Minter whilst he was in London and what a gentleman he was.that coupled with a stalking boxer puncher style made me a fan. I do wish he'd fought more often though.

McCAllum always complained. Fact is his prime was a little later than those guys regardless of age.
