Not that it means too much, but Conteh did beat Marv in the Ameturs, so probably would have no reason to fear him, Marv did like someone he could Hit consistently, he like to have a War, but i feel that Conteh is much too Skillful, Mobile and Hard Hitting to be drawn into Marvins Game, I think Conteh uses his superb boxing ability to Rack up the Points against Marvin, and Opens up with the Heavy Stuff when he has too to keep Marvin Contained, at the End of the Day Conteh will always know where to Find Marvin, - But Marvin will not always be able to Find the Adroit Conteh, Eddie Gregory outboxed ans Broke up Marvin with Body Shots in a superb display of technique against a steight-line Aggressor, I think Conteh can do the Same, Albeit more through Headshots then Bodyshots, If Marvin gets too Frisky with Conteh he might Suffer from some Careless Conteh Headwork in amongst the Fast Conteh Combinations ! ( Conteh was often so quick into Attack mode it was only on Slo-Mo Playback that the Conteh "Iffy" Headwork was fully noticed by Viewers ) Conteh for me, and if he feels good about both his hands it could be by stoppage circ 9th.

I like Johnson .... Conteh and Galendez remind me of Palamino and Cuevas, very good fighters who preceeded terrific fighters ... Marvin Johnson was a terrific fighter who came along in one of the light heavyweight divisions greatest times ... I feel he was too strong and hard hitting for Conteh who was a beautiful fighter but seemed to lack something in my book ...

Conteh had those beautiful boxing skills, but Marvin would be in his face all night, and at some point, John is going to wilt.Johnson Ko's 11 Conteh.

    john conteh by stoppage.
the peak (which was brief) conteh would have ripped johnson to bits.the one handed conteh gave saad muhammad a boxing lesson in their 1st fight and was then robbed by muhammads corner men cementing his eye back together

I think JC would have been too classy for MJ, I believe JC would have gradually outboxed MJ and then worn him down, stopping him in the championship rounds.

I think some people actually forget how ruthless JC was. He was a lethal combination of classy boxing, good power and a vicious finisher. If he had lived the life I believe he could have reigned probably 2 or 3 years longer & would quite possibly have beaten Saad.

BTW - did you know that Alan Minter also had a win over Marvin Johnson in the amateurs?

Hi turpinr. Minter beat Johnson on a majority decision in a England-USA match in Feb '72. As Michael Caine would say, not a lot of people know that!

Conteh would have been far too skilled and accomplished a boxer for Johnson. The Ahumada fight was an indication of what would have happened to Johnson.

Not sure about that.Ahumada was a totally different kind of fighter to Johnson and performed well technically..He was tougher and vastly less predictable, though not as hard a puncher.conteh never really succeeded in timing him from the outside and won more from better physical tools and versatility, rather than a more strict boxing approach.

By contrast, Johnson was easy to time, hit and work around...in theory. If you can deal with the power, pace and offensive ability that is.

I believe Conteh by decision. Past his prime Conteh gave Saad a tremendous fight and many thought he deserved the decision. This was after Saad Ko'd Johnson. The 1974-76 Conteh wold oubox the best Johnson.

Saad and Johnson were different types of offensive fighters, though......does them both a disservice to predict a winner here based on the Saad fights.

No one has mentioned that Johnson was a southpaw.Conteh handled them pretty well,a tip top Conteh just squeeks a dec ,anything less Johnson takes it.
