Could the Conteh of 74-77 beat the Johnson of 78-80 in a 15 round title matchup?

Yep. Conteh was a much better all-round boxer, too schooled for Marv, who was no mug I might add. But a UD for John is the likely outcome. As well as this, they apparently fought three times as amateurs. The score: Conteh 2-0. :good

I certainly think Conteh would win, he had the sharp boxing ability, mobility and power to matador the streight line advance of Marvin, Conteh would Alternate between the classy Boxing and the sudden and vicious combination punching flurries, an ever presant danger for Marvin might be Conteh Head in close, it did seem to feature in quite a few of his fights to his opponents detriment, it may look a bit like Marvin's Fight with that other classy boxer/puncher Eddie Gregory/Muhammed
with Conteh concentrating more on the Head then his Body,
I think the versatiliy on Conteh carries the day on Points or Late Stoppage, Not that it would be a factor but Conteh Beat Johnson as Ametuers.

Conteh by decision,I liked both guys Johnson was a very good fighter with heart, but I think Conteh ,at his best might be abit too versatile and speedy for the south paw.

I think that a prime, uninjured (no hand problems) John Conteh easily outpoints a game, but outclassed Marvin Johnson over 15 rounds. Conteh was a fine, classy boxer, but his brittle hands let him down.
