WOW is this a step up in class or what?? OK so Ferguson is no killer but he was once being managed by Floyd Mayweather ( not sure if he still is ) with a record of 20wins 3 losses and 6KOs.... Like i said, Ferguson isnt a killer but for a young prospect like quintero, this is a big step up... To those of u who've seen Ferguson, u know he's no bum... It's going to be part of a ShoBox triple in a few weeks... Anyone excited? Quintero!!!!!
Even though the showbox triple main event is absolute ****, I'll be watching for Quintero. BTW Fin, You happen to catch Escobedo-Famoso?
I was very intoxicated by that time but yes i saw it and I think alot of doors will open for him after this victory.. whoo!! Id love to see him get a title shot against Cassius Baloyi, Roman MArtinez, or even the young contenders at 135 since he campaigns at both division.. What do u think?
I was doing a live RbR for the PPV (and not drunk at that point) but Escobedo survived a very very tough opponent who was fighting for his career. Escobedo made it harder for himself though by not using distance and his jab but showed a tremendous 1-2 and a slowly but surely getting there Nacho Beristain style uppercut. I didn't like that Escobedo seemed discouraged in the middle rounds (when he started to slip up a little bit) but he adjusted as all Nacho Beristain fighters do and came back strong and tough. A great learning experience for a fighter whose still learning.
Yea he does have the tendency to get discouraged when things aren't going his way which was what happened against Jimenez who gave him his first loss. I also think he tensed up a little knowing that it was his first time fighting under the bright lights of HBO... But he adjusted well and finished the job so i think he can only get better from here on out given that he trains with MArquez under Ignacio Beristain.. How would u stack him up against the mediocre title holders at 130 like martinez and Baloyi?
A few more fights and some more time with Beristain and I think he could do real well against guys like Martinez and Baloyi. That said I'd need to see him in more Carlos Hernandez type fights, wars that continually test his mettle. That's where most of the question marks lie.
escobedo could have made it alot easier by doing the 'ole' bullfighter trick. sidestep the charging bull and push him to the ropes, then put the hurt on. he spent too much time with his back against the ropes where he couldnt get proper extention on his bread and butter 1-2 and overall better boxing skill.
