How well would he do? Could he crack the top 10 or better? He fought in a much more competitive era and Joe seemed to change his original boxer style to a brawling style which didn't suit him. If he had stuck with his boxer style, how far could Marvis Frazier have gone in today's heavyweight division?:think

    Good question.

I think Marvis would fair better as a cruiser myself, he could certainly cut the weight, but I think Holmes and Tyson proved Marvis couldn't really take a huge shot like Joe could. He would probably climb into the top 5 and then get stopped by either klitschko.

I like Marvis Frazier and felt that he had some unfullfilled talent, but I think he'd be hard pressed to go very far in today's division.. He was never much for taking a punch, and had very little power himself. His boxing ability might earn him a few good wins, but I don't think its enough to make an impact on a division that's loaded with big men, and heavy punchers.

Keep in mind that his defense as a boxer was much better than his defence as a brawler, so theoretically he wouldn't be taking as many big shots in today's division if he were to stick with his original style.

True. His father sent him into some of his bigger fights with the wrong fight game, and he paid dearly for it. I can see him doing okay in any era, but there are few periods to almost none where I can imagine him being a world champion.

No on Chambers, Ruiz is retired, the others he would have a chance against.

I am of the mind that he would be a top 10 contender today...

Frazier would need careful match making to obtain a top 15 spot.

it's interesting and looking at his amateur pedigree and results, I agree that he would excelled had he stuck as a boxer. i'd say he's right in the heavyweight mix, around top 5 and a tough night for anyone at the present not named klitschko

I don't see his career being much diffrent. He would decision some of the more limited top 10 oafs on the Broad and Smith level, get rushed into a couple big fights and get crushed. Saying he would only lose to the K-Bros or Haye is pretty much the same as just losing to Holmes and Tyson in his era.

A good fighter Marvis was, he just was in a era where to of the finest champions were there in Holmes and Tyson. Marvis, would be top 5 in todays HW division.

Agreed, but Chambers is actually pretty good. Not great, but good, especially against most top HWs.
