I feel for Marvis having to walk in Joe Frazier footsteps is a hard thing, Frazier prepared him as well as could but the kid only had 10 fights and half of his mothers genes.

Still Joe raised a good son and a hell of a man with great respect for his father...Good people the Fraziers

Marvis also told the story of how during Roots, the tv drama, he and his siblings starting saying how the white man had beaten them down, etc,. and Joe came in and turned off the tv and told them, both white men and black men helped me all the way, every step to becoming champion, and I owe allot and you owe allot to all these men. Now you go back and watch your show but don't let me ever hear you talk like this again. Yes Bummy, Joe is a good man indeed.

I've never heard a bad word regarding the Frazier's character. Marvis and Joe seem like genuine, honest, and trustworthy. The type that once you make friends with them, you have a friend for life if you don't betray them.

How times have changed: "...he is after all 23, which is no baby in this heavyweight division..."

In any event, Marvis is a great guy. Did ya'all read Facing Tyson? It was real nice how he told Tyson he loved him.

Marvis tried, he trained so hard. He wasn't near ready for Larry Holmes.

Wasn't a big heavyweight either, and for god knows what reasons, had identity issues when it came to style.

Still thought he was a fine fighter though, and he's one of the nicest guys I've ever met.

    Marvis was/is a Super Kid,,,,,

He was just trying to fulfill 'Smokin Joe's Dream.

Unfortunately, the Frazier's did not respect Larry Holmes' talent.

the boxer he was in the AMs was way different from the fighter smokin joe wanted him to be. he was never gonna be a brawler or his dad but if he had kept to his natural style, he was a pretty solid boxer

The one round blow out against Tyson was expected but some people thought he had a shot against Holmes. The result was surprising I thought it would go the distance.
Genuine nice guy and a pretty good fighter.

Marvis was a good kid and a sportsman his father was a warrior and that is the difference...Joe fought with a savage Had too, while Mavis did it for his Dad, remember he still only had 10 fights going into the Holmes fight and I never though he was prepared in any way to move up to that level with 10 fights and I also don't think he would have survived long enough to gain experience in the heavyweight division...Marvis is a good person but not a fighter anywhere near his father but neither were many
