Both wanted to be the next Joe Frazier but neither proved up to the job. Who would win in a match-up between the two?
Gotta go with Smokin' Bert. Before the drugs ruined him, he was at least a legitimate top 10 contender. And Bert can definitely crack with the right hand. (admittedly, I am a bit biased, but, I honestly think Cooper would win this one)
Marvis should win. He only lost to the absolute best. Cooper's rep gets elevated bc he went to war with Holy (who made every opponent look good) and had the fight with Moorer who elected to trade with him bc he hadn't adjusted to being a heavyweight. Cooper also gives a reason for Foreman advocates to reach for straws. Foreman stopped s journeyman on a coke binge.
As long as Marvis sticks to boxing and not fighting like his dad if he manages to get past the first 6 rounds I'd favour Marvis to sneak a tight decision win . Cooper had serious gas tank issues among others he faded very badly in some fights . That's what might happen but then cooper could catch Marvis and stop him early I'm not sure which would happen if honest but I like the match-up
That's really about what it would boil down to in just about any head to head match where Marvis is involved. If he just did what he did naturally he would have beaten a good number of quality fighters, and I think Cooper was one of them. If he listen's to Dad however and tries to outgun Bert he gets smoked.
Both were lower poor mans heavyweights, Cooper got blown out by Foreman, Marvis got slammed by Holmes, both these guys can win everytime against the tomato can journeyman types but as soon as they go up the elite level they get smoked like a big fat joint... Both at their best Marvis wins a close UD, despite taking a trip to the canvas, his chin wasn't his best asset...
