Danny needs to pack it in, he had a good career, beat a faded Tyson but you can't take that away from him, he also put in a courageous effort against Vitali. The last few years he has become a punching bag, sad to see.
haven't heard this rumour, but i did hear fast car maybe getting wilder over to fight stabler for the international masters title in mid 2014, after james turns pro in jan.
I heard the russian judges had been given a backhander by the mafia. They knew maskaev couldn't deal with a slick black fighter like Danny so had to resort to these underhand methods. Danny completely outclassed him, it was not just a robbery, it was a tragedy. It's decisions like this that make me reconsider my position as boxing fan. I've seen some bad judging in my time, but last night took the effin biscuit.
Williams let the fat old Russian outbox him for most of the night and lost about eight rounds clearly. Had there been a championship pair tacked on, there is a very good chance Williams could have scored a TKO but it would have been creditable more to exhaustion on Maskaev's part than anything Williams did. Of course, it's also entirely possible that Maskaev could have still clinched his way home and still taken a decision, as Danny himself was in no shape to effectively thwart much of the clinching, let alone go for a big finish. Or Williams could have lost by TKO as he was knackered too. Really he should've called it a day after going life & death with Kreiskott.
He should have called it a day after Chisora. Why is carrying on, is it for financial reasons or can he just not "let go" ?
Danny was my fave British fighter of the 2000's so sad he's still fighting despite being beyond shot and not even being able to beat novices or journeymen.
Good q. If the former he is making peanuts getting whacked on the head by the likes of Kreiskott (the Maskaev showdown was probably his biggest payday in a while and probably not much to write home about itself) so he may as well take up coaching or commentary or branch out beyond the boxing world on reality TV or something instead.
He's doing it to keep his kids in private school. Nobody wants him fighting but what can you you do. The guys he's lost to over the last few years he would have toyed with in his prime. Such a shame.
