OK, I just saw the stoppage on Youtube, seems to me the ref could have given Oleg the standng 8, as he was the defending champ. Quick stoppage...

He didn't look wiped out on his feet as Maccarnelli did against Haye. The stoppage seemed premature as he was rocking Peter as often as Peter rocked him. Peter would probably have won, but the fight ending as a sixth round TKO gives the wrong impression about how well Peter was doing in that fight.

Agreed. How much time left in the round-11 seconds? It doesn't matter, since Oleg didn't have anything left, but Peter was winded, too.:tired It would have been the right thing to do.

you could see the defeat in maskaev's eyes. He didn't want it anymore. that's why he didn't even complain when the ref saved him. Maskaev was tired and probably more hurt than he led on b/c of all the sledgehammer shots he took......to the back of the head.

There is a case for a standing 8, and by that point the round would've been over, but it would've merely made this fight a TKO7 loss for Oleg rather than TKO6.

Maskaev had no fight left in him. He wasn't firing back, could barely get his arms up, and didn't even protest the stoppage.

The most it would've done was delay the inevitable.

Look Maskaev is old and he should have retired when he beat Rahman. I didn't see him lasting as long as he did against Peter. Peter has power but that is about it. It seems his chin and stamina is going to be a problem. I would give him the edge againt wlad but there are some guys out there that could beat him with ease. I think Sultan Ibragimov would beat Peter with ease. Or maybe ruslan Chav. I don't think he will bve fighting Vitali because the steroids have caught up with Vitali.

Oleg looked so old and worn he would of fell over from exhaustion a round later anyway, it would have been an early stoppage in almost any other case but Maskaev was done.
