Late 80s big fight in the U.K. not so sure the rest of the world would be bothered.webley stadium .both big punchers Bruno hits harder mason has faster hands and better chin but Frank has a poll like jab .What happens and what comes next for the winner and loser? What Happens?
I saw most of their UK fights from ringside,Bruo would win this because he was a little quicker afoot and had that heavy jab.Mason had heart ,a good chin and some power but what he could do Bruno did better, except for taking it on the chin.
Both were managed and trained in the same stable by Terry Lawless at that time. So the fight wasn't likely ever going to happen unless one of them changed teams. I think Frank Bruno would take this fight soundly and win by late stoppage.. Frank Was a world class contender. Mason spent too much of his career facing lack luster opponents.
It would be a tough fight for Bruno but I think he'd win. I wouldn't want to bet on it but I'll go with Frank here. Strangely enough he was little more nimble on his feet, more agile. Mason was a tough fighter and probably more talented than Bruno at putting nice punches together, but he was more of a plodder, simply slow on his feet.
Bruno. He was very solid and a top 10 World contender for years. Mason was Commonwealth Championship, maybe European Championship quality.
Garry was sadly killed in a road accident in January 2011 in London knocked off his bike by a van .A sad end to a good fighter.RIP.
Not fair. Mason was world level. Only lost one fight in a 37-1 career cruelly ended prematurely by a detached retina. Measure of the man he took on Lewis when didn't need to. Beat still useful Tyrell biggs with one punch , Tillis and few other decent wins. I take him to outlast frank. Just shows depth of British and world level boxing in those days that this fighter was never really discussed....today anything half crude bums like shyte and chisora Sold as the second coming
Tillis was no longer relevant to the ratings he would have 12 more fights and win just 4 of them.Biggs was on the gear and on the way down .I was at those fights.Mason's problem was he was vulnerable to the jab and had very slow feet,he struggled against Biggs and was blowing like a cart horse when finally caught Biggs. Mason never got that signature win that would have put him into world class.imo
I don't think Bruno was quite "a class above" Mason. I think they were at a similar level. Bruno is the one I'd favour to win though.
