Been some good posts on these two guys lately .Similar height but very different fighters Mason rock solid chops good hand speed good power and very strong but could be a bit plodding .Hide very fast hands and feet hard hitting but fragile chin and mentally .What happens? I fancy Garry to come from behind and stop Hide in about seven rnds in a wild crazy fight .should be a cracker .what do you guys reckon?
I’d favor Mason, he was a much sturdier fighter. I don’t think Hide would hit him any harder than Lennox did. Now there is a possibility that Herbie could just out speed him and Gary could possibly swell or get busted up and open. Bowe claims Hide had legit power. Rocky Selorski also said Hide’s power was on Par with Foreman. So Hide could land one of those rights and put Mason out, “possibly” But I’ll stick with Mason to eventually walk Hide down after walking thru some heavy Hide shots and to win via tko8 when Herbie doesn’t fancy the ware fare anymore. Cool matchup.
Agree with above. Hide was no feather fist but I believe Mason takes his Best .He'd keep on coming at Hide ,clubbing away .Eventually ,behind on points ,Gary would drop him .Probably a couple more kd s following till the ref says over.
Good fight. Hide was much faster and he also hit harder, but Mason was very tough and had so much better chin. He had enough power to KO Hide. Most likely Mason wins by late stoppage, but I won't rule out Hide on points if he's careful
I'd take Mason a much more solid fighter. Hide had speed and power and it might take Mason until late in the fight to stop him, but on the other hand it could be early on if Mason caught him because Hide didn't have the best set of whiskers.
Mason was physically strong with an excellent chin, which are attributes that would always cause Hide problems. Hide was extremely fragile for a heavyweight, both in terms of his chin and his vulnerability to being mauled (such as against Bowe). Mason hit hard enough to flatten Hide, and had the strength and aggression to wear him down if he didn't land a big one clean. The X Factor is that Hide would be much quicker, and hit hard enough to hurt any heavyweight. There is a chance that he could catch Mason cold in the early rounds and overwhelm him, but it's not the most likely scenario. There are three elite names on their respective records - Lewis (Mason) and Klitschko/Bowe (Hide). Out of the those, Mason gave the best performance and it may well have been a very close decision but for the eye injury.
Mason was a favourite of mine, I don't think I would class him as having good hand speed though tbf. I think Hide can run rings round him, but if he gets caught he could be in trouble, serious trouble. Peak for peak I can see a case for both. Mason both eyes shut just not quick enough and loses on points or Hide out for the count. I don't think the Bowe fight was legit as most think, I watched it the other day and punches weren't landing and Hide was going down. I think he was caught between having a go and knowing deep down he was in with a far better fighter mentally. Struck me as a fighter that would defo throw fights too
Poor Gary. He just didn't get the big $$$ bout with Bruno. In this, you'd have to take him over Herbie. Especially if it goes past say, 5 rounds. Be a real tough fight though & I think he'd have to dig deep absoebing those punches with snap Herbie threw in there. He sure didn't bother setting things up with a jab. Entertaining fight for sure & I'll go Mason tko8.
It would be hard for both while it lasted. Hide had spiteful venom in his heavy hands in the Bent period, had some good wins against people Mason would have probs with too. Hide could knock most out if they weren't too big(super heavies) and get knocked out himself by most. He has it in him to beat Mason imo
