    Wonder rating
The fight between Sergio "Maravilla" Martinez against Englishman Martin Murray (Channel Seven, 20:16 pm) scored 24.7 rating points and became the most watched of the day and the second most-watched of the year, second only to the second program Journalism for all .

Also, I just looked over the previous weeks listings in Argentina and they seem to have almost weekly boxing shows airing on their main networks. Ratings are nowhere close to Sergio's but that's good to see.

    :conf

What does that translate to in actual viewing figures?

    :huh

All the great Argentinian heavyweights are journalists?

Don't know but it was the second most watched show in Argentina this year. So a hell of a lot.

And I don't know what you mean in the second part.

I'm guessing its more to do with the anti-english/british feeling in Argentina right now due to the falkland issue being re-raised. Pretty sure the media would have hyped it that way too.

    That's what I think, too.

Three of Martinez's last four have been against British fighters. Surely all these fights were popular with the Argentinian public.

His fight against Chavez jr did 15 million viewers and had a 25.5 rating at TyC and 14.1 rating at Direct TV.. Those 2 channels both show boxing weekly and they usually both have the rights for big fights..

I think the rating the OP is talking about are from TyC.. which is slightly less than the Chavez fight. if it's total, it's a lot less. But that seems unlikely since this fight was in Argentine and therefor likely got a lot more press..

But yeah boxing is major in Argentine. few weeks ago there was a women boxing title fight that drew a crowd of 40.000.

Don't think the Argentines care a lot about Brits.. GB is like the 53th stage of the US nowadays. They don't mean nothing on world level.

Was going to say this. I'm sure Macklin was chosen because of the whole Falkland issue but they tune in just to see the Martinez show. His most watched fight was against Chavez.

Matthyse vs Peterson however drew a 2.7 ratings. I don't know if that's good or bad. It obviously didn't smash any records but I'm not sure if it was at least acceptable. It's lower than some of the other weekly boxing shows they have.
