I love the professor. He could come at u in different styles ,cross armed is one. He was a smart fighter who could adjust his style and change gears when needed. I feel he doesn't get his just dues.

 

Lewis done pretty good in rematches.

 

I don't think Marvin Hagler and Joe Louis ever lost a rematch. In fact they improved almost every time out.

 

Joe Louis best ever.

Not Ali, not Tyson.

 

Why not Ali? He holds rematch victories over Henry Cooper, Floyd Patterson, Sonny Listion, George Chuvalo, Jerry Quarry, Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, and Leon Spinks.

 

Lenny....took 2 defeats to flash knockouts and proved thats what they were.

Lost to Tony Perez on points in their second fight, avenged the loss via TKO 3

Lost to Alfred Urbina on points, avenged the loss via TKO 1

Lost to LC Morgan TKO 4, avenged the loss via TKO 2.

Lost to Billy Backus TKO 4, avenged the loss via TKO 8.

He avenged all his losses in style except his last two losses against Monzon and Stracey, that's because he never got the rematches. He was past his best by then anyway.

 

Just an ancedote....i read somewhere that 80% of rematches were won by the guy who won the first fight.

 

Brian Mitchell comes to mind.

His only loss was to Jacob Morake, but he managed to avenge that defeat three times over in rematches, each win being more convincing than the last. Unfortunately. Morake lost his life in their final match.

Joe Rivera gave Mitchell problems in their title fight and knocked him down. He was way up on the cards going into the midway point of the fight, and Mitchell needed a storming finish to earn a draw.
In the rematch, Mitchell made some adjustments and won a lopsided decision.

In his first fight with Jackie Beard, Mitchell suffered some bad cuts due to headbutts from Beard, who was a strong if dirty fighter. The cuts were so bad that they went to the cards after 9, with Mitchell winning on points. But it was not a convincing performance.
In the rematch, aware that Beard again would use his head to open those cuts, Mitchell turned his head away during the clinches and boxed cautiously to win easily on points.

In his fight with Tony Lopez, Mitchell could only earn a draw in a close fight.
In the rematch, Mitchell again made adjustments and beat Lopez convincingly. It earned him special mention from World Boxing magazine, who noted Mitchell's ability to make adjustments where required and improve on previous performances.

So for me, Mitchell is as good as anyone in this regard.
