Masterful boxing performances: Eusebio Pedroza KO13 Patrick Ford & Hilario Zapata TKO13 Joey Olivo

    Both of these fights took place February of 1981 just 6 days apart where you have the Panamanian champions Pedroza and Zapata putting on an exquisite display of boxing and stopping their opponents within 13 rounds. Blending energetic offense and slick defense they also play both matador and bull throughout the fight in style against the taller man. Perhaps the best performances on film of both fighters IMO.

    Who would say put on a better showing between the two? Honestly hard to separate them since they both looked so good in those fights.

    Both were brilliant displays but Pedroza completely dominated Ford who had gone to a mayority decision over the great Salvado Sanchez.

    Ford never won another meaningful fight after this beating.

    Pedroza was simply perfect that night, shame he never got to fight Sanchez. I think he had the style to beat the superb Mexican.

    Pedroza was near flawless in that fight and I'm also one of those who believes who may have had a great chance against Sanchez.

    Zapata was superb against Olivo who was also a good fighter himself and would later become a champion years after. Olivo also ran a very close fight against the great Myung Woo Yuh who would end up being a dominant champ afterwards.

    Olivo was a masterful boxer himself.

    Fought a lot of tough opposition outside of Zapata and even travelled to Denmark to outpoint the unbeaten former Olympion medalist Eyub Can (and another terrific boxer) who a year later would win the EBU title against the undefeated Pat Clinton, the future WBO champion.
