if pavlik loses does this cancel plans for calzaghe v pavlik? im guessing calzaghe will go for tarver v dawson winner if this is the case

also hopkins is on 48 wins so i reckon he wants to retire with 50 wins, also dont be surprised if he fights taylor for a 3rd time at 168 if he has a world title

If Pavlik loses it'll probably KO the Calzaghe fight but the chances of the Abraham showdown will be better (not the same as 2 undefeated fighters but at least Pavlik won't lose his MW belts). IMO Pavlik is taking on Hopkins at 170 because he wants an experience at the weight he'll probably fight the Calzaghe-Jones winner - if he wins as well... but at the moment I'd definitely pick Hopkins.

Unless Hopkins has declined rapidly from his last fight, I would definately put money on him here. Props to Pavlik if he takes this.

It would be a real pisser iof he lost however, Calzaghe-Pavlik goes down the pan. Still, If Hopkins does beat Pavlik, which I think he will, Calzaghe enhances his legacy because Hopkins will prove to be a bigger win in retrospect, and a Pavlik fight will be a foregone conclusion as he beat Hopkins - at least that will be the consensus.

Pavlik has everything to win this one, the size, the age factor, the punching power and the fact that he's on the upside of things. Bernard has everything behind him until this point of his great pro career and he's still proving he doesn't feel afraid of any challenge out there. Tough one to call but Hops is the smartest boxer around this business without a shadow of a doubt.

This is the kind of fight where you pick the experienced favourite in Hopkins to win, based on analysis and styles, yet you have a sneaky feeling that the younger underdog in Pavlik will pull out the win.

A little like Forrest - Mora.

Ah man, this is totally a lose/lose for Pavlik. He's loses, it's to and old man and hurts his rep, he wins... we'll, he beat an old man.

With that being said though, the pre-fight hype should be interesting. Let's see if Hopkins uses the white boy line again.

As for the fight itself, I think it will go the distance. Hopkins is too slippery and Pavlik is a bit slow/mechanical so Bernard should be able to avoid any of his best stuff. I love Pavlik but I just don't know with this style matchup...

i like this fight, and based on most of the analysis of people here, it will be interesting. Its a better fight than williams imo..can't count out the old man he has a big chance of an upset here

At 43 Hopkins could age very badly and very quickly in a fight with a man young enough to be his son. Its a lose, lose fight for KP as there is no credit in beating up an old man.

I disagree. Pavlik has the following to gain -

1 - Experience. This is going to be a serious learning fight for Pavlik. He is going to learn about staying elusive without spending energy and he's going to learn about cornering a non-mover who controls tempo. 12 rounds with Hopkins is a masterclass.

2 - Hopkins is still a decent scalp. He was very competitive with my p4p #3 last time out - you yourself have picked Hopkins. A win would be meaningful here.

3 - Major Kudos if he can stop Hopkins. Being the first guy to do that would be very special. Yes people would say he was old, but it's also the case that it makes the Calzaghe fight hot hot hot. Calzaghe won a razor thin decision against B-Hop and then Pavlik beats him down? Nice.

4 - It represents a step into ATG terrritory. If he fights and beats Hopkins then fights and beats Calzaghe/Jones he's fought top 100 all time guys back to back.
