I picked Kelly on points due to the fact I didnt think Hopkins could fight a full 12 anymore and Kelly would outwork him to a SD win. I figured Hopkins would be wining until rouind 7 or so but then start to fade he proved me wrong. I should have never doubted him.atsch This was the first fight I picked against him.

 

You're not alone!

There were alot of us who had reason to question Hopkins workrate and stamina.

.....but we know now that physical stamina is not so much the issue, when you can have a target thats right there to hit.

Us boxing fans ignore past history.....an aging fighter has trouble with speed and movers, not big punchers that show up to bring it!

Hindsight is always 20/20!


I did say in this very thread however, that if Hopkins should win, he'd do so by dominating!

he needed to do that to calzaghe, but tht would be an achivement on its own, calzaghes hands dont stay still the guy just slaps all day

 

i remember so many calling this fight an easy win for pavlik. looks like yall got it totally off. ANYONE GOT A LINK! i still havent seen it yet. but from the pic and lil slip bhop exposed kellys 1-2 forward style. he cant throw unless hes moving forward and not in defense mode. bhop looked huge compared to him. cant believe yall thought kelly could pull this off LET alone a ko! wow

im looking to bet on a jones/hopkins 2 and pick hopkins for the win. wish i would have had a chance to bet on this one! easy money!

 

Look at the gif........Pavlik is pretty much standing straight, and never leans his upperbody to the sides, to make it more difficult for Hopkins to hit the target.

At the end of the fight, Hopkins was heard on video talking to Pavlik not to let this fight diminish him.
Hopkins told Pavlik someting to the effect of "I heard your corner telling you to dip to the side, but you have to start listening to them."

Hopkins went on to tell Pavlik, "nobody can beat you at 160 lbs!
just keep working hard, listen to your corner, and work on your boxing.
I'm personally going to be on your ass. You can get better.
I'll personally be on your ass, if I have to go to Youngstown myself, you hear?"
......and Pavlik just nodded!


Pavlik actually tried to parry Hopkins shots and shoot some back himself.....but there were too many incoming, and he needed to use some waist movement and leg and body dipping, which was'nt in his fight plan!

With a good skilled fighter your size and weight, you cant get away with just standing straight up and shooting shots.....that strategy should be left for fighters much smaller in stature than you are.
