I was watching Alexis Arguello Vs. Jim Watt, and I noticed something. Jim Watt's timing is amazing. Granted, he lost that fight and ended up with a "face fulla hamburger" from Alexis' sharp 1-2's. However I noticed Jim Watt's jab. It didn't really have any particular measure of speed or power, but he could land it over and over again. Anybody have any other examples of unusually perfect timing?
Inga Tuigamala has arguably the best right hand ever, even though it doesnt look to be the fastest or most powerful. Although it isnt really noticeable on film, Bob Fitzsimmons seems to have a similar sense of timing.
Emille Griffith had tremendous timing on his jab. Right down the pipe and not telegraphed. He threw it within milliseconds of when the opponent was at the optimal range. Michalczewski threw a similar jab himself and neither of these guys relied much upon reach advantage to be effective with their jabs. Just absolute razor sharp timing. Sometimes good jabbers need to always have their long arms or exceptional handspeed to make their jabs effective. The guy you mentioned in Watt had a deceiving type timing one. Buchanon's was even better.
George Foreman had impressive timing on his shots. Ditto Archie Moore. And say what you will about Mayweather, but he times his right hand about as well as any fighter in the game today.
Niccolino Locche, the way he can jab with a fine jabber in Cervantes defies logic, he gets the distance and leverage so right. People don't talk about Gushiken in boxer mode enough i feel. When he is circling his man he just puts on a clinic.
Carls Ortiz with his potshotting right hand, and his jab. Monzon must have honourable mention, no speed in that jab and it landed don't you know.
