Slightly off topic but still related to boxing styles, I wanna ask a question to some of you ESB experts :D

Is the style Mike Tyson used(peek-a-boo) an actual boxing style or is it just something which he used? Are their any other fighters who used it? or is it just a different name for another style which Tyson used slightly differently?

Its just something I've been wondering about for a long time.

The most notable fighters were Floyd Patterson and even Kevin Rooney himself fought in the more squared up peek a boo style. As Tyson evolved as a fighter and Rooney as a trainer I think the style evolved as well, moreso to compliment Tyson's physical attributes of speed and his short stubby arms.

Tyson later in his championship years didnt use as much tick tocking upper body movement and really perfected his head movement and slips to subtle checks and movements to maximize his ability to counterpunch. I dont believe we ever saw the best of that style as the rails fell off of Tysons career.

We later saw a fighter named Omar Sheika try and fight in the more squared up D Amato style, but he never had the speed and power to be successful on the championship level but it did make for exciting fights.

Now we have Kevin Rooney Jr who is fighting under his fathers guidance but I dont see him going as far as Omar Sheika as a pro.

Kevin Rooney has had a difficult time holding onto fighters long enough. Even Sheika didnt stick around too long.

I did forget to mention Vinny Paz who had some success late in his career as a super middle for fringe titles.

Povetkin is trained by Atlas who never really followed the D Amato script and has a completely different style of training fighters although he does cover the bases of trying to make his fighters successful on the inside as well as the outside.

I knew Floyd was trained by Cus but I didn't realise he fought like that too. The only fight I've seen of Floyd's his the beating he got given by Liston.

I've been told I should look him up. One of the greats?

Watch Jose Torres too if you haven't before, another one of Cus's. Good at what he did, as Pastrano would've attested to, but vulnerable to punchers, as Tiger and Fernandez would've attested to.

And watch Floyd in the Ingo rematch and maybe the Moore and Cooper fights. Or even some stuff from his post-Liston days when he turned in some top performances after being largely written off.
