I would imagine the root of the problem is that you have more fighters who want money than there are desirable slots to put them in (televised, well paying, etc). You have 15 candidates for 2 slots, you need something that dramatically narrows the field.

Only college football and boxing have this no losses allowed attitude, and in both it's because there is a pretty large pool and very little room at the top.

Yeah, I don't see why someone who is celebrating their favorite basketball team going 26-17 would turn around and write off their favorite boxer for losing to a serious contender.

I wouldn't believe the effort people can put into hate-following boxing and boxers unless I saw it with my own eyes.

Do you think this element of UFC would work in boxing? Instead of grinding out 20-25 fights before you really face a threat then continue on to 40-50 fights, you're in competitive matchups early and a successful career could be a 20-7 record?

It seems like it would be much healthier, so much less sparring and weight cutting for one thing, plus early career fights with some adversity are very entertaining.

It might be if fans, journalists and pundits changed their attitude to fact " fight is lost ".
The big difference between basketball pro and pro boxer is 3 main things:
    1. In basketball the better player you are, the more offers to play and more $ you are getting. Team is main brand and they hire the best available players for money they can afford to pay them.
In boxing the more dangerous you are, the more difficult for manager and your promoter is to get for you next fight.
    2. Basketball teams does have during long years established fanbase. They follow team and after team follow players.
    3. Basketball team does have a lot of players and fanbase mark as brand TEAM.
There if you for long year followed team had lost 3 matches in row, they usually continue to follow and be fans.
Boxing: lol, he is done, 3 lost fights in row.
Ranking too, when boxer had lost fights in row, he heavily drops in rankings.

Why for example Povetkin had been very highly ranked during long years? He had lost only vs Champions who had multiple belts.
Even draw vs Hunter didn't pushed him back seriously.

    Then this match with Whyte.
Look how this does works: before their 1 st fight Whyte had been ranked higher than Povetkin in some rankings and boxrec.
Whyte lost 1 st fight and outcome : Povetkin had been ranked higher than Whyte.
Whyte won 2 nd fight and looks that they again had changed their places.

Now total outcome: Whyte looks that is in the same places where he was before first fight vs Povetkin.
Of course he now does have some belt, boxing org called this as Internim belt if I'm correct.

Yeah and still some matchmaking should be done not to get lads mismatched.
Young boxer, like up coming and if he is mismatched he might get damaged, there I do not mean just lost fight.

If boxing had attitude like stadium MT, KB and MMA then for example at least local fights were not boring.
Like when you see boxer and usually by 90% can tell who will win this fight.
Because they need rack up his record and keep 0. It is boring.

Prospects sometimes KO ppl in row and when they get not bad boxer in the ring, all KO power disappears and good if they might travel till hometown cards.

If you match up boxer too tough, might be outcome like this: your boxer is 5-1-2 and he is better than another boxer with 5-0-0 record, for ppl this boxer with 5-0-0 record might look more promising.

Not sure you can compare the two sports to be honest. In basketball, football and all other club related games, the fans support the club rather than the players. Not taking the fanboys into account obviously.

    I already had mentioned this.

Ohh, despite in team sport brand is team, players too does have fans and also might get advertisement deals etc.
A lot of NBA players does have more than 1m followers in IG.
You might earn money also with your YT channel if you do have a lot subscribers and high number of views for your channel.
