Canelo vs. Bivol isn't a bigger fight than Fury vs. Whyte. Taylor vs. Serrano is being co-promoted with Jake Paul's MVP and that will definitely not do huge numbers in Britain or America as women's boxing isn't very popular.
It seems like boxnation 2.0. Frank went down that route out of necessity Hearn has done it by choice.
Nottingham champion fighter at home plus good travelling support = ticket seller. Bears no relation to whether it would work as a Sky TV fight though.
Eddie Hearn probably makes more money for himself by being on DAZN than he did on Sky and that's probably the crux of the matter.
Also think that hearns idea of global domination would need an app to achieve it. In this day & age, that makes sense. The money and potential opportunity? Ye sure. But why else would he do it?
Have a look on company house I doubt he is. He may have made a bit extra in the short term but I doubt he is now and it'll only get worse going forward. It's better to have part of something big than all of something that's going down the drain.
Are you mental? the guys has TV contracts in excess of $150m a year through his business. His Sky contract was worth £10m a year plus PPV profits for the Sky deal to outweigh DAZN he would have had to have a million buy PPV every single month. The DAZN deal was impossible for him to refuse. I know for a fact that Eddie had a 5-10 year plan to float Matchroom on the stock exchange for a billion plus valuation. His intention when the DAZN opportunity came up was to try to ensure it succeeded that the TV deals got renewed at the end of the five year contract expirations and then float. In that period he wanted to launch offices in Australia, Europe, Asia and South America. Not saying he will achieve it but he’s well on the way. A lot of his plan is contingent on DAZN being successful.
agreed he needs to tick along with his boxing content until DAZN pick up major sports rights in more markets.
With the recent fights I suspect that Sky have loosened the purse strings somewhat to try both to defend their customer base and also put their erstwhile promoter under pressure. They needed known fighters to be appearing on their network asap and they've a shared interest with Top Rank in stifling DAZN at birth. As to where all this is heading, the initial phase is always painful for a startup coming up against established market leaders. The arguments for moving are really long term, a shift in consumption patterns amongst younger consumers who baulk at the Sky subscription fee but happily pay for a streaming service if it has the right content. The lockdowns however may have skewed the market somewhat. Lot's of people stayed home watched more tv, what will they do now? Will they bin off Sky as inflation starts to bite? It's a difficult time to be launching a new business that's going to eat cash for a long period, DAZN will need those deep pockets.
No, I'm sticking with my first opinion. Better shows, in general, top to bottom with the worse judging on a Boxxer/Top Rank show. So there !
