Buatsi looked terrible in his last fight and still don't understand why Sky / Boxxer signed him ? He doesn't bother to train like a real professional and he doesn't dedicate himself to the sport at all. Waste of money.
Cos on paper he’s exactly what Sky and Boxxer wanted from their ‘new generation’ a couple of years back. Well spoken black lad from London, amateur pedigree, Olympic medal, natural talent etc. Stars aren’t made on paper though, and he’s not had the drive or determination to push on past domestic level.
So this is who Eddie Hearn was talking about during the fallout of Buatsi/Okolie moving to Boxxer when he said something along the lines of someone is advising these guys and they've got no clue about boxing.
£32m their 4 year deal was worth and they’ve been utter crap. Just looked at the opponent for Ben Whittaker and he’s fighting a bloke ranked 300 and odd from the weight division below.
I doubt Matchroom are arsed about Buatsi, it's about setting a precedent for anyone who wants to poach their fighters.
Imagine being in a dispute over a boxer who isn’t even European level. Doesn’t make you any money, and that you lost a ton of money on because you have overpaid him for knocking out stiffs his entire career. Shows how little Shalom knows about boxing that he has ‘poached’ him. It all really is a warning for Sky Sports to consider other options. Preferably have people organising shows who know more than a breadcrumb about boxing, perhaps.
They look like there struggling to me. There’s no doubt that Matchroom leaving for Dazn, has had a massive impact, negatively, on sky boxing.
Absolutely ridiculous. Waste of time for Whittaker, boring for the fans, unless they want to watch one sided beat downs. I want to see him tested. See if he can perform when he’s taking some back.
