So after promising some HUGE shows this is what we got from Matchroom USA DAZN

Chicago - Jessie Vargas vs Thomas Dulorme
Boston - Demitrus Andrade vs Walter Kautondokwa
Kansas - Jarrell Miller vs Bogdan Dinu

Would you consider these shows to have met your expectations? Are they MASSIVE like Hearn promised?

(Canelo vs Fielding and WBSS doesnt count, they arent Matchroom shows)

I was considering going with a 3/10 but all those shows did feature what us boxing fans crave.
Sweet Caroline. Automatic 10/10 in my book.

That's a bit unfair, DAZN only launched in September and the first show was October I believe, so we should be rating their past 3/4months. Beterbiev/Johnson was also a very entertaining fight on the Vargas guard.

That being said, it's still unspectacular. 6/10.

That DAZN press conference at the start announcing all the new signings was a complete flop. After promising so many big names it was tumbleweed central. Hearn had to fly Joshua out there to save the press conference from being a total failure. A complete and utter shitshow of a press conference.

My personal highlight this year was the Kansas show which was originally hyped to be a “monster” card in Atlantic City. I particularly enjoyed the fancy dress theme where fans turned up wearing empty seat costumes. Won’t have cost Hearn much to rent out that school hall at least. Another complete failure of a show where 50% of the audience was part of fatty Miller’s entourage.

Do you not believe Eddie that there was a huge crowd there but they all went home before the cameras turned on?

Unspectacular. I didn't actually mind the first show tbf, was pretty entertaining and the Andrade card did originally have a really good main event. The Kansas card was horrible though. 5/10

I know it's only been a few months, but remember Hearn PROMISED a PPV quality show before the end of the year. He simply hasn't delivered it, those shows above wouldnt be PPV if you combined all three

Matchroom USA or DAZN? Both are relative newbies, another 18/24 months they will be huge in the US.

Eddie Hearn fanboys on this board always bash the PBC and anything that they feel competes with Hearn.

It would be easy to bash Hearn over DAZN.

    I'm not. I like it.

It's only a handful of dollars a month. I've gotten my money's worth. I've watched the replay of Chisora-Takam over and over again so many times. I love that fight. I can't wait for Whyte-Chisora II.

Same with ESPN+. I HATE that any U.S. boxing show basically features all the undercard fights on ESPN+ and the main event on ESPN (I just watch apps, and I don't have cable or satellite, so I don't get regular ESPN. And ESPN is not available just in APP form, you have to subscribe to a cable or satellite system to get the ESPN app.)

But, griping aside, I love that ESPN+ shows Frank Warren cards and I can watch them all - from the first undercard bouts to the main events in their entirety - on ESPN+.

The DAZN cards in the U.S. have been sparsely attended. So much so that they rarely even turn the lights up anymore so you can't see the seats in the background unless a light show is going on, and the red and blue lights speed past the empty seats.

But that IS boxing in the U.S. right now.

Maybe Hearn will realize the obstacles guys like Al Haymon have faced now that he sees he can't just announce there will be a boxing card and expect tens of thousands of people to show up. (They don't.)

Regardless, there has never been more boxing available to fans on both sides of the Atlantic than there is now. These ARE the BEST OF TIMES when it comes to boxing coverage. Fans LITERALLY have never had it so good. (I remember when I had to get VHS trading partners in the UK and New Zealand 20 years ago, and I'd get a package of two or three VHS tapes a month that I'd have to pay to have converted from PAL to NTSC before I could watch them.)

Now I can watch everything on an app in my living room (except ESPN main events). It's truly amazing.

So don't bash DAZN too hard. I want them to succeed. Just like I want the PBC to succeed. And I want ESPN+ to succeed. And I want Showtime Boxing to succeed. And Boxing on Fox to succeed.

They all need each other. It's all good.

Matchroom USA started 2018 with just Danny Jacobs and Jarrell Miller. No champions.

Matchroom has gained Tevin Farmer, Demetrius Andrade, Artur Beterbiev, Maurice Hooker, Daniel Roman. That's 5 World Champions added to their stable, with Danny Jacobs World title win giving them 6 World Champions.

I would be impressed and very surprised if they can gain another 6 World Champions next year.

I also wouldn't be surprised if they all lost their titles next year. Not a very dominant group of champions, to be honest.

considering DAZN shows the matchroom UK cards why aren't you rating them aswell, Joshua Povetkin, Bellew Usyk, 2019 will be huge for matchroom and DAZN its all quite fresh and needs time to build, but if watching charlo vs willie monreo and Thurman vs lopez is more your type of mismatch then feel free. the fact is DAZN is 9.99 a month, that's 2.50 a week, compare that to the cost of 1 PPV and tell me its not worth it
