Neither of them have the profile to sell out an arena that large, fury has some profile but chisora is barely known outside boxing fans in all honesty. Can stack the undercard as much as you like but the masses only buy for the main event, and If they have 10+ fights on the bill it'll bore the crap out of most people.
Just remembered this fights at the MEN or the Phones4U arena as it's now known Yeah you are right with that one. I went to see the pair of them share the same bill at the Copperbox earlier on in the year, it would fill the likes of that arena without doubt... but no, not the MEN.
They announced the fight months and months ago in the hope of slowly selling it out. Realised they couldn't do it so have now made about a 16 fight undercard in the hope of getting the fighters to sell the tickets. Can't believe Fury is getting a 7 figure pay day for this.
Hennessy is Tysons promoter not Frank and the old Cliches without real proof about Warrren not paying fighters is getting bit old and worn TBH. The event will do well. This is a good , solid and evenly matched heavyweight dust up and is a Million miles different to the farce of a 1st fight on channel 5 when Derek turned up in disgracefull condition. The under card is rock solid as it stands also. frank himself said that they had to wait untill after the wembley show was out of the way before they could begin promting for obvious reasons. Talksport are confirmed to be broadcasting the fight so expect a tun of promotional adverts/shows etc over the next 6 weeks
Got VIP for the Crolla v Rees at Bolton, well worth it, third row on the side where Hearn & co where and free booze for three hours plus the bar in between fights wasn't as busy.
It's a fight between two guys that don't have that high a profile amongst general sports fans, and people by and large don't spend big money on tickets for the undercard, got all the hallmarks of being a massive loss maker, especially if fury is getting over a million for it And the whole thing with wembley show is bs, next it will be the World Cup he blames as people's attention is there, England or no England. And frank seems to think he's furys promoter looking on his website, then again it's still got ricky burns, cleverly and kevin Mitchell as being promoted by him
Dont agree really Mate, Chisora is very well known after the Haye brawl and follow up fight...same with fury fighting on channel 5...there is a reason why sky sanctioned Tyson's scheduled fight with Haye for PPV especially as it was going to be the first PPV since the Klitscko fight. How is it BS about holding off until after a much bigger uk boxing event like Wembley which was dominating the news? The World Cup is the world cup also Franks web site can advertise that's its the best web site in the world if it wants - the fact is Hennessey is Tysons promoter.
Think Frank & Mick will be having a word in Chisora and Fury's ear to cause some drama before this... bump up the ticket sales.
Honestly speak to people who barely follow boxing/casual sports fans hardly any know who chisora is and a couple will know who fury is, and the haye fury fight would have been PPV in lager part because of haye and how fast the tickets sold, which compared to this fight it looks incredibly obvious that they sold fast far more because of haye than fury - don't think furys and chisoras fight at the copper box a few months back anywhere near sold out an 8k venue so why people think they could sell out the phones 4u arena or even half of that is optimistic. As for VIP tickets for this fight, it's £130 but you need to have bought a ticket separately, most matchroom ones are £150 for a ringside/just off ringside seat as well as the free bar and the like and the quality of the fights is as good if not better (doesn't have the volume of fights but for most people more than 6 is too many) and is far better value and would go down far better with people who aren't massive boxing fans who'd be itching for the club when the 10th fight of the night, the flyweight southern area title is on
