The worst thing that you can say about Marciano's chin, based on the evidence that we have, is that it probably wasn't in the class of Chuvalo and McCall.

If Lowry really did have him on the point of a knockout, and his chin really didn't improve very much, then he would almost certainly have suffered a stoppage loss as champion.

His chin was solid as hell. Walcott levelled Charles with a hook similar to what Rocky got tagged with and Marciano got up quick and returned to his brawling ways.

He’s definitely not the first guy I’d think of when looking at first round KO victims, quite the opposite actually.

 

I don`t think Ray would gone for the KO in the 1st round and Khan`s reach and speed would keep Ray off for a while too.

 

The Chuvalo fight was stopped because Chuvalo was taking too many unanswered punches.

It wasn't a failure of his chin per se.

Tyson v. Douglas II (of the Holyfield fight)

Corrie Sanders v. Bruce Seldon

Cooney v. Leon Spinks

 

All those shots were harder than the shot Moore dropped Marciano with, Foreman was also more powerful than Walcott who dropped Marciano.

 

Patterson had a better defense than Briggs who would have struggled to land on Floyd compared to the more offensively skilled Liston, Floyd would have landed a lot of power hooks too, he had a massive speed edge on a prime Briggs.

 

Or the other way around, if Lewis went for the KO he would get caught.
