I was impressed with him tonight. He looked sharp and took his opportunity well when Elcock was hurt.

Elcock has been sparked early before but has also been in with some good operators.

How far can Macklin go, given how weak the middleweight division is just now?

    Not that far.

I don't think he takes a good punch at middleweight himself. Strictly Euro class.

He dealt with Elcock a hell of a lot more impressively than Arthur Abraham did.
I think he can go beyond European level and possibly grab a World strap should something become available below the level of Abraham and Pavlik.

With the way the division is at the moment the European champion is normally one of the best contenders(as Sylvester and Asikainen were) and now Khoren Gevor is European champion and a very good one at that. Whether Macklin's good enough to beat him I'm not sure(because I rate Gevor very highly), but I'd fancy him over Asikainen or Sylvester and I think he should be moved into that sort of class quite soon.

No need for Warren to match him with someone like Steven Bendall in a first defence now. He should be matched with Darren McDermott next and if he can come through that a fight with Darren Barker to see if either of them can prove to move on to World level.

Euro level and world level aren't that diferent in middleweight just now.

If Pavlik and Abraham do both move up to SMW as has been suggested there will be 3 belts up or grabs and I would guess that the higher rated Euro fighters right now would be strong contenders for them.

I've never seen him take any shots so I can't say anything about his punch resistance but ofensively he looked good against Elcock.

Strum isn't the biggest puncher in the sport either, so if Macklins chin is his achiles heal that could be another route for him.

I agree with BigEars that Darren Mcdermott would be a good match up for a Brittish title defense, I think McDermott deserves another shot at the Brittish title after the way his last one against Elcock ended.

Jamie Moore is a top class banger and they went toe to toe for 9 rounds smashing each other to bits. I'd say it was fatigue as much as anything that meant he lost to Moore. Macklin is a very good pressure fighter and one day will get a world title shot, and won't do too badly probably losing on points.

I'm not basing it on that.

When I see him at middleweight he freezes everytime a guy punches him. Watch him against Ajetovic.

Among all the PPV panic, this fight got less attention than it deserved. Lots of credit to Macklin, he made it look easy easy out there.

I agree re: the McDermott point. McDermott deserves his re-match for the Lonsdale strap. The board have ordered he face Barker in a final eliminator for Macklin's brit strap, so hopefully should see what could be a good fight between 2 of those 3 atleast.

Was impressed with Macklin lastnight, looked the best i've seen him but Elcock never looked right, will be nice to see if Macklin can look that ipressive with a few more rounds.

What a difference in Macklin, from the Ajetovic fight to the Elcock fight. I'm glad Macklin has found the right trainer in Joe Gallagher, and found the right fitness and tactics. Macklin has often been a puzzling, inconsistent but promising fighter. I think he might have been motivated a lot by seeing John Murray's British title and being part of team Murray for Murray-McAllister.

Great to see Macklin and Jamie Moore looking so good within a couple of weeks of each other.

Macklin vs Duddy or Lee would be great.

Macklin looked very impressive. He was in great shape and fought a good fight. Patient yet trying to get work done. Good defence yet letting good shots off without being stupid. Then when he hurt Elcock he saw red and finished.

It is a really good win for Macklin who should carry the weight much healthier though he may be a tad small at the weight. Not sure yet. I saw him in Vegas and he doesn't look very big.

Next up has to be DARREN BARKER! Time for a unification. Great fight for both of them.
