its between barker and macklin for best british middleweight. i'd lean towards barker winning a comfortable UD
I saw Barker fight this stocky black journeyman (can't remember the name) and he got HURT! If Macklin is aggressive and lands some bombs, who knows. It's a great domestic match up.
i can't think who that was. his last five opponents have been white... but i do agree that his punch resistance is a bit suspect. i just fancy him to outbox macklin
It was Conroy McIntosh http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=51107&cat=boxer and Barker was very close to being stopped, he's a brilliant technical fighter, very smooth and puts combinations together brilliantly but there is reasonable question over his chin after that fight and his punch power isn't exactly devastating either.
Putting the performance aside, Macklin looked in absolutely prime shape on Saturday, the best I have ever seen him.
thought so myself icemax, not too surprised that he hasnt been getting much press because of others this weekend but i was hugely impressed with macklin he looks stacked for the weight but his muscles are spread out well, hes aggressive hits hard and now seems to have realised that not everyone can fight like hatton and has returned to his often ignored boxing skills. i'd say he would beat sturm in 9 months/ year
Probably why he won then. He's Ricky Hatton impression didnt work to well when he fought Moore. :nono
Just goes to show how stupid some British trainers are. Enzo is the same. What doesn't work for one works for all. Why expect Matthew to have a high output like Hatton? The kid got stretched out of the ring for crying out loud and oxygen. I felt bad for him that night. :-( Discover and uncover as D'mato used to say.
Macklin actually held his hands up and tried to have a defence rather than his face first approach like Hatton.
To be honest i feel bad for Elcock as he tries hard but the guy is sooo fragile. He's chin has never been up to much. As for Macklin iv watched him since he turned pro and always thought he may go places domestically. I dont think he has the skills to win a world title but i think he's good enough to be a fringe contender as long as he doesnt neglect he's boxing skills as the kid is a solid box puncher.
