Well everyone is different if we where all the same that would kinda suck dont you think ? Nothing as far as head shots sucks worse then being hit behind the head. I can honestly say ive never took any shot to the front side of my head that has ever hurt me very badly, I mean there was one amateur fight where I think I blacked out for about 1 secound but never anything to bad. Behind the head though ive been knocked out 3 times being hit in some way, shape or form behind the head. Once I fell down playing football and busted my head on the ground, once I was kicked in the back of the head straight into a wall and was woke up being kicked agian :yep and once knocked kinda out with a liquor bottle behind the head but the lights where on just barley if you know what I mean. The football one resulted in a concussion and so did bottle incident although I was stomped about 8 times though in addition.
Damn Jimmie. You've been through some wars bro. I'm with you though man, so have I. I've been through some **** in and out of the ring. So I understand.
You don't have to give him the first round, because without the illegal headbutt Serra doesn't come close; I don't know the exact rule on official judging in a situation like that, but I know they do have some options if they see something a ref misses; either way, Serra did not deserve the round. Second was clearly Hughes, Serra had a good comeback in 3, but it wasn't as good as most remember it; Hughes had a hell of a throw earlier in the fight, but nobody talks about that.
to be honest all of the gracies time is over... they ahve to accept BJJ isnt the elite fighting style anymore.
This isn't aimed at you, just pent up from years of hearing this. There's a lot of politics behind it, Helio's side vs Carlson's and a lot of Rorian promotion behind it, "he dominated the UFC and was only average, that's how wonderful Gracie Jiu Jitsu is" type stuff. I'm sick and ****ing tired of this myth that Royce is so worse than the other Gracies. Royce has the beat defensive guard of that generation; maybe excluding Rickson. He isn't as good in grappling competitions, but his game is aimed at MMA. The areas where the other Gracies of that generation are better are top game and higher risk offense from guard; the thing is none of them are capable of taking Hughes down, and the more they open up and attack, the more Hughes would start pounding them and passing. The whole "Royce is so much worse than the other Gracies at BJJ" thing is a total myth that has just been propgated for years for people to sound like they know more than they do. In reality Royces game is much better suited for dominant wrestlers or guys with powerful top games than Renzo's because Royce rarely gets hurt from guard and is good at maintaing it and controlling posture; where Royce is weaker is against slicker grapplers who can pass or play their own guard game; Renzos is much better for strikers and other sport BJJ players; without being able to implement his top game he is not as effective as Royce in a real MMA fight. Obviously they are both great all around BJJ artists, and neither one is "bad" against a certain style, but it's a matter of relative strenghs:
Well like I said in a previous post I went well overboard calling Royce a Bluebelt by comparison I tend to exagarate. I do however feel Renzo is a better BJJ guy though. This isnt me being biased because of **** like me meeting Renzo or being at an affilate from what ive seen of these 2 I think Renzo is like you said probablly a better top guy I think Renzo's ability to pass guard is damn good and of course his submissions are outstanding. Royce does have a fine guard obviously he controls posture perfectly but watching Renzo I see a more well rounded guard meaning I think his sweeps are pretty darn good as well as his submission game and posture control. Although ill admitt ive only seen Royce compete in MMA and usually off his back vs big and strong wrestlers and its hard to even attempt sweeps on them because of how solid their base is usually. Im not a great BJJ guy myself but I understand how difficult it can be off your back competing with good wrestlers.
Yeah ive had some rough times :yep especially the wall incident ***** tried to kill me with a screwdriver then spayed lysol in my eyes then thats when I got kicked into the wall I went to sleep woke up being bounced of it. Fun days they where :rofl
Renzo doesn't belong at middleweight either. Renzo is around Penn's size. Hughes will have a size advantage over Gracie in addition to his being younger. I'd be a fool to tell you that Renzo is a sure bet to win. I would have taken Renzo with much less hesitation several years ago. I will still do an avatar bet with Beebs if he is interested. I brought it up a page or so back, so he may have missed the offer.
I just want to say again it wasn't directed at you, just the saying. Renzo does have a better game, but the things that make it better he won't be able to use. He wont be on top, likely wont sweep, and since he wont be on top, won't pass.
