He'll be the most skilled boxer Zurdo ever faced, but with the 4 inches height and 5 inches reach disadvantage, he'll have to be the agressor. He doesn't really fancy that style.
Doesnt need to. Like I said, Zurdo struggles to find range and tends to smother his work. Not saying Korobov is gonna win, cause Zurdo will still likely use his size and activity to win inside, along with his wraught iron chin. BUT......midrange.....Korobov is gonna light him up with combination punching, and steal rds based off clean effective punching. MK will wear down, gas like he tends to around 8/9, while Zurdo will still be banging away, and something big will land on the inside, and a KO will likely result. My guess.....Korobov up 5 rds to 3 then gets stopped in the 9th after and UC drops him, then a body shot finishes him off.
Agreed. Matt Korobov would likely win the re-match with Andy Lee. Korbov has great skill, but he's not tall, has a short reach and is just an average puncher by middle weight standards. At age 34, he might have a big fight on the horizon. I would not write him off from getting a shot at the title, or even crossing swords with Canelo, post his pending loss to GGG.
What's he up to now? has he been pushed outta the sport? He really should come back at 168 he'd be a player there as it's one of the weaker divisions.
Guy had a two year run in the amateurs where he was untouchable. Ran through a WC with less than 10 points scored on him the entire tournament. Then looked awful at the next years Olympiad giving up more points to his first round opponent, an Albanian representing Sweden than he did in the prior years WC's. Then went out in the second round. Then his entire pro career has been a big pile of MEH..... Evidently had some sinus issue that effected his breathing at the end of amateur career and start of his pro career but it was addressed yet nothing changed in the ring. I guess more top prospects fall short than deliver in boxing, it happens!
June 13,2017. "Several months ago, Bob Arum offered me a championship fight against Ramirez. I accepted the fight without thinking. He did not even argue about the fee, although he was scanty. But after a certain period of time Arum called back and said that the deal was canceled. Ramirez does not want to fight me. I'm ready to become a champion, but what if the champions are not ready to fight me? " Matvey Korobov, whose incredible record in amateurs 300-12, broke the contract with Bob Arum and absolutely does not regret about it: "Everything has its time. Now is the ideal time to be on your own. I had a choice - big money or big battles. I chose the latter. I made a mistake, giving Andy Lee a knockout in 2014. But let's not forget that I am the one who easily beat Jose Uskategi and I am the one who knocked out in amateurs Daniel Jacobs. I am the one whom every middleweight and super middleweight tries to avoid. But if I'm invited to participate in the World Boxing Super Series tournament, there will be no chance of avoiding me. "
Is there a video of him KO'ing Danny Jacobs in the amateurs?.Man Jacobs doesn't match up well with Russians does he lol.
Odd how they never built him a local fan base. Kept throwing him around from city to city. And he took 2015 and 2017 off...
