Frank Warren announced today that Matt Skelton has been nominated to fight Alexander Dimitrenko for the vacant European heavyweight title.

Solid fight for Calzaghe Kessler undercard, makes up a little for Enzo's jokes of a fight.

I have already read Dimitrenko is fighting Virchis, Hoffman, and now Skelton. WTF is it going to be?

Very good move by Frank Warren if it's in Calzaghe-Kessler's undercard. In Britain, he has a chance to have the less experienced Ukrainian reluctant to take the fight to Skelton but still I believe that this guy is too much for the brit. Sprott was beaten clearly by Chagaev and Dimitrenko has the same german schooling, Dimitrenko by close UD or even MD, SD.

This fight won't take place on Nov 3rd!

Dimitrenko will face Timo Hofmann two weeks later.

Yes, but I assume von der Groeben's announcement that the fight against Hoffmann would be for the EBU title (he said so at the very end of Saturday's broadcast) was only a severe mistake and it's still simply for Dimitrenko's WBO Inter-Continental belt... right?

I just looked up the EBU website and this is what I found:

So the contest itself will take place sometime next year, not in November.

    The European heavy weight title?

Vladimir Virchis is the present title holder, and as far as I know the title isnt vacant.
Furthermore Dimitrenko is scheduled to fight Timo Hoffman in Magdeburg/Germany.Big fight for the young Ukranian!

When the hell is Skeleton suppossed to fight Dimitrenko?
You didnt mix Dimitrenko up with Virchis, did you?

He's talking about the "OTHER" European title; you know, the one that the likes of Michael Sprott fight for.

skelton is a low expectation boxer - doesn't seem interested in advancing beyond the european title. i think he can win by stoppage in the late rounds.

BTW Sellers is very underrated! should be ranked 5 and not 277 in the world. he was drugged against bruce seldon, headbutted by ed thompson, the others were fixed and would have ko'd oneil bell if the ref allowed to continue.

    :D

I wonder what will happen if Dimitrenko has lost his upcomming bout with Timo Hoffman.A victory is no sure bet! The huge German can box a bit,and he will fight in his backyard.

Now, Chagaev wants to fight Dimitrenko in May. I am willing to bet it is going to Hoffman for Dimitrenko's next fight, then Ruslan Chagaev.

I dont where Frank Warren came up with this? Virchis has the Euro title anyway.

    Dimitrenko can present Chagaev trouble.

Valuev and Virchis were much bigger then Chagaev, but they slower. Chagaev was able to out-manuver his bigger , more powerful, opponents, acctually fighting much like Sultan has (at least against Valuev, I havent seen the Virchis fight).

Dimitrenko can match that size at 6'7 and 83 ' reach, but has speed and mobility.
