Matt Thorpe Busy In Retirement; Looking To Build Up '12 Gauge MMA'

Matt Thorpe speaks on how his retirement from Pro MMA is going, and which irons he still has in the MMA fire. '12 Gauge' doesn't rule out a return to action at some point, but is currently busy coaching, co-promoting and more!

Here's a taster:

"Retirement was in my mind before it to be honest. The problem with UK MMA is it can't support you money wise. Unless you get into the big shows like the UFC, it's very difficult to make a living from. I was working with a full time job and training full time; the days on my job changed and it became harder to commit two to three hours a day to training.

"I was still committing, but a lot of the guys I was fighting were doing it full time, so they had an advantage. While they were having rest time, I was working eight or nine hour shifts. I decided I was doing myself an injustice by continuing down this route, so I'd rather pull away now, while I was still considered good, and I'm just concentrating on my fitness for the time being."

However, '12 Gauge' is refusing to rule out a return to the action, and admits he would reconsider his retirement if certain boxes in his life were ticked. He noted,

"I'm 29 and I can't say I'll never fight again because you don't know what you'll feel like in years to come, but I've promised myself that I will not fight again unless I'm just working a small, part time job and I'll be OK with my mortgage and bills. If that doesn't come, then you'll probably never see me step in the cage again."
