Boxrecer here, heard many things about the forum so decided to join-up. I know Brendan does a great job on the Irish stuff so no intentions to steal his thunder.

What's the potential for Macklin? World titles? He thinks so. Any opinions on the article welcomed.

I know Pavlik has lost some respect recently but he's still an excellent fighter. I think he' be WAY too much for Macklin.

Sylvester is his best bet for a world title.

To be honest i give Macklin a fairly decent shout. Pav can be outboxed and Macklin does have some very decent boxing skills as a box puncher. Pretty sure he cant do any worse than Gary Lockett who just showed up for a pay day.

The Yanks tend to overrate Pavlik but he'd be too much for Macklin. TKO 6ish.

I see that Macklin has made it onto the Ring ratings at No 6 this month. Pavilk would destroy him though I think.

I don't even think Macklin has a good chance of outboxing him. Pavlik is a little stiff and mechnical like Kessler, he's also extremely slow footed, but he makes up for some of that with a long ass reach and a hard left jab. He throws his punches extremely correctly. I wouldn't say he's a terrible boxer, he's pretty competent and it took a master fighter to expose his weaknesses.

Macklin is just your average boxer puncher, he doesn't have the type of movement and smarts needed. He's decent but Pavlik does what he wants, outboxes him, outworks him, outfights him and just hammers him.

Sylvester or Sturm I give him a real shot.

I thought Taylor exposed his weaknesses before Hopkins, that being said Taylor is still obviously a World Class operator.
Macklin would be in all sorts of trouble if he stepped up to the likes of Pavlik.

Macklin in a world title fight is what I want. I really do not mind who it is against.

Taylor did? Taylor got knocked out, and the second time he fought a perfect tactical fight and Pavlik still beat him at that game.

The Taylor fights just show how its not that easy to simply outbox Pavlik like people think. Taylor is a good boxer, better and more proven than Mackin and he went 0-2 with Pavlik.

After watching Taylor/Pavlik it was painfully obvious to me that Pavlik was reliant on his power and could be outboxed. The fights showed me his weakness.

I knew he could be outboxed before Hopkins schooled him,did you not?

Well yeah, I was always arguing with the Pavlikites that he was overrated. I actually think we've gone completely the other way now, and he's underrated because of the loss to Hop and the recent debacle with Williams which is his own fault. People just think anybody with an ounce of skill outboxes him but its not like that, Taylor had skills and speed.

It still requires a good ring IQ to be able to recognise and execute the gameplan Pavlik struggles with, the skills to pull it off, and some speed really helps. How many fighters have all that? Not that many which is why Pavlik is still the best and most accomplished middleweight in the world, albeit in a weak division by historical standards.

    Agree with all that^^^

    :good

BTW Do you think Taylor should fight on??
I'm caught in two minds. Really respect him as a fighter and he comes across as a really nice guy in interviews but I Would hate to see him KO'd again
(not that Ward has the brute power to do so but you never know)

I think he should carry on now that Ward has won. There is a world title there to motivate him, he doesn't need to leave the US, Ward isn't a huge puncher whereas he's been fighting genuine bangers recently. I think he'll do alright against Ward.
