Why would Heiland need a "big performance" to beat Macklin ?

Macklin is a gatekeeper who had a career fight against Sturm and should of got the nod, against the likes of Martinez and Golovkin he performed at his level and was bust up.

I understand that but im just asking what it was that you saw in him that made you predict a victory? I hadnt seen the guy so the resume is all that I had to go by. But Bernard Dunne suggested that having watched video there was nothing to suggest he was capable of it either.

Macklin looks to be a one-hit wonder. I have never seen him come close to his Sturm performance. Hell, Sturm made Suleyman look good lol.

edit: Granted, he did okay against an old Martinez.

I was certain prior to this fight that Lee/Macklin would happen....now I'm not so sure. I think Lee might win the title fight he but then will get savagely beaten in his first defence...if Mack can make a decent enough comeback then a big fight in Limerick or Dublin could happen between the two.

I seen some of him on youtube. Knew Macklin was a 6 round fighter and probably wasn't going to KO Heiland.

I wonder if Macklin will now be humbled enough to answer O'Sullivan's challenge.

The commentators were saying beforehand that he would very likely duck it as he considers himself to be on a higher level and wouldn't like the risk per reward.

    Now, though... ? :think

Would definitely sell in Ireland and set up a fight with Andy Lee nicely for one last payday.

Honestly, based on their form today (even though, granted, Heiland is a few levels above Fitzgerald) I might not favor Macklin ...and in fact think he might get done inside schedule by O'Sullivan, not to put too fine a point on their respective performances.. :think

Wouldn't surprise me either. Macklin always had stamina issues and was never the quickest, but his reflexes looked shot tonight which was a bit worrying. O'Sullivan couldn't pull that Roy Jones impersonation against Macklin though, he still has a bit of a dig.

I'd like to see Macklin retire. He's a smart guy and should be able to make a decent post-fighting career with his gym and his punditry. But if he did continue, a fight with Spike would be worth watching, and a big fight in Ireland.

Only finished watching as I had recorded it.

Not surprised by the result. The writing was on the wall after Macklin struggled in his last few fights. Macklin is a very old 32 year old, he looked like he was trying to save his energy to me but just invited Heiland onto him and gave him confidence.

Spike O'Sullivan was so unorthadox it probably caught Fitzgerald off guard but it worked and he looked good doing it.

As for Nevin, it was pretty much a nothing fight. Just to keep his name in public attention but walking forward swinging from the hips isn't going to do much for him.
