Because he fought in his "Homeland" in a huge arena. How could he not have got up for that?

    Len - Use common sense.

The whole point about Macklins problem, Einstein, is that it stems from how he has conducted his career since he fought Sturm.
Instead of plying his trade and keeping sharp with regular fights he has held out for BIG fights at twice yearly intervals...Sergio, GGG etc.

But it's the LITTLE fights that keep you sharp for the big ones. Neglect the little fights and it catches up to you. You dig?

Are you thick or are you just trying my patience?

Matt, for all his Boxing knowledge, only has one gear - 5th.

The only time he isn't blowing people out of the water is when he isn't up for it. So those tune ups are actually harming him. He even admits to struggle to find motivation to fight nobodies inbetween fighting the elite.

At his age, and his many years as pro (15!), you expect him to fight 4-6 times a year? Come off it, sir!

One last time before I give up.
You can't do anything on a part time basis and expect to stay world class at it.
You can't box once or twice a year for 5 years straight and not have it catch up to you. Geddit Einstein?

I understand, but the man CANNOT GET UP FOR EASY FIGHTS. Those are his own words. So what's the point in having them?

He's done alright so far hasn't he? He gave Sturm hell and was right in there with Martinez. It took a JUGGERNAUT in Golovkin to stop him.

His age, His style, All the training and 4/6 fights = him retiring within one year.

If that's how he feels he is wasting his time continuing.

So Matt has decided to give it one more go. He is saying, not without some justification, that his "flat" performance against Heiland might have been due to him being overtrained, physically burned out, washed out etc rather than "washed up".

Jamie moore said the same thing, and I must say it looked a bit that way to me too. Matt is a smart guy. If he can't perform he will call it quits, no doubt.

I'd like to think it was a case of him being burned/washed out as he had been in the gym constantly over a long period of time, but I'm just not so sure.

Macklin's been in a lot of wars on fight night and given his style, you'd have to expect he's took a lot of whacks in sparring as well.

Such an exciting fighter, but has has been said on here already and has he's said himself... if he can't get up for smaller fights, which he's no doubt going to have to take in order to get the ball back rolling, then is it the smart thing to do?
