Peterson wasn't able to out-box Lucas because Matthysse was bypassing his jab, either countering over it with a right hand or ducking low and slipping it while stepping forward. He stepped up the pace in the 2nd and closed the distance that way. After that wasn't working, Peterson tried to smother Matthysse, but Lucas was able to outmaneuver him and get into better position to land his shots.
