Always found it strange he was so highly rated after having very close fights with Judah and Alexander, two fighters who seem to be held in fairly low esteem. Plus a clear loss to Garcia who gets widely ridiculed. His boxing ability has always been overblown, he's tended to rely on his power to win fights, Postols jab and movement completely nullified his offense and made him look like a crude swarmer. I though he only took 2 rounds, most of the fight he just had no answer for what Postol was serving up. Not to take anything away from Postol, great win and I see him giving Crawford a very hard fight.
Postol is a tall 140 pounder who can give anyone trouble. Did you notice when the referee told him not to clinch and fight out of them he got better and started nailing Lucas? I think Postol went in showing too much respect for Lucas's power but he took his shots very well. Great win for Postol. Good thing Danny Garcia never fought him because he would have lost.
You have to be joking? Lucas's style is ALL wrong for Broner. Broner is the biggest hype-job of the last 10 years.
All we that lost our vcas in this fight, our mistake was not to underrate postol, our mistake was to overrate mathysse. Actually, iksab, yksab. If a boxer cannot decode a much taller guy's jab, then he's not a top fighter. Decoding this problem is hard for anyone, but should be easy for any top level boxer, since it's the basic problem a tall guy will propose you. Bye bye vcash, bye bye mathysse, you were exposed.
It seems that every time Lucas is just about to reach that next level and take on the biggest names, he loses. I fear it's downhill here for the machine and I say that as a fan if his. Well done Postol, I imagine he'll be keen to set up a unification bout with Broner but Crawford is the right I'll most be looking forward to winning.
This. 90% of pre fight ****ysis posts on this site only talk about punch power and chin resistance. Ring IQ, footwork, variety of punchers, angles used, lateral movement and most importantly, how a fighter has previously performed against fighters with a similar style to their upcoming opponent, rarely gets mentioned.
Anti American sentiment and power. . . He was not American and could punch. . Thats the recipe for esb hype
Matthysse style isn't wrong for Broner at all. Broner might be flat footed but so was Garcia and look what happened there. Broner has much faster hands, Lucas would get lit up in the exchanges and probably get his face broken again. He just looks too fragile at this point in time
I first noticed how overrated he was when a large majority on here was picking him over Garcia. I thought to myself wtf?? "They do know Garcia is the champ and undefeated, with a better resume?!?!?!" But I came to realize how much people like power. They see anyone with power as the second coming of Tommy Hearns. That coupled with their dislike of Danny Garcia, caused them to hype Matthysse and downplay Garcia. This intern in their mind delegitimized Garcia's victory and kept Lucas as this "undefeated" (in their minds only) monster KO artist. I hope him quitting might finally brings them down to earth. Then again you can never underestimate people's ability for self delusion, I mean how else do you explain religion?
