A proposed fight between former junior welterweight titlist Devon Alexander and power punching Lucas Matthysse of Argentina is gaining steam. Golden Boy's Richard Schaefer, Matthysse's promoter, said Thursday that he is negotiating the fight with Alexander promoter Don King. If the deal is made, the fight would take place in June or July and air on HBO, Schaefer said. ___________________ I like the fight. My only question is- Is Matthysse a one dimensional fighter? Devon looks his best against one dimensional fighters (Urango).
devon hasnt thrown a uppercut since the urango fight, I think its a good as well but I ather saw him rematch kotelnik. I hope the winner of this fight faces maidana next.
Props for signing a very tough fight after that last showing. Devon, you made a terrible account of yourself once again and you keep embarassing my good city... I don't know if I care to watch this again because I don't actually think he can beat Mathysse... Who is much much better than what he gets credit for. Either way, let's see if Devon really has the stones to compete as a prizefighter. If nothing else, this fight is a test of heart more than any other he's taken.
Word. I have rooted for him since the Urango. But idk about this Mathysse fight. Hopefully he'll show us what I been asking him to do. If he doesn't this time around then i will officially write him off has a gatekeeper.
Devon really disappointed me against Bradley, but this is a good fight against an opponent that will test him.
I like this fight. It will be a big test for Devon and he can gain his respect back as a fighter from his fans that lost some because of his last fight with a solid showing in this fight, against what i think will be a huge challenge for Devon. Matthysse is a realy strong puncher, that throws crisp straight punches.IMO matthysse isnt as one dimensional as some may think.Lets see if it gets made, then we can talk more about it. I hope so.
He does get thought of as a brawler on these boards. I think he is a very good boxer puncher. He doesnt throw your typical wild hooks like a brawler. He throws very good straight punches with power. Also he just recently started training with Martinez's trainer so he will only keep improving. I have Matthysse by TKO in way of quitage by Alexander. When he starts getting hit with those straight right hands he will fold mentally. Because lets face it. Thats exactly what he did against Bradley. Another scenario is he comes in balls to the wall trying to impress. Well i dont think Alexander packs more power than Judah and Matthysse took his punches well so i can only seeing that ending badly for Alexander. Once you quit its always easier to keep doing it. I still cant believe how Alexander bitched out. I left a party to watch that fight at home alone....
I wonder myself why 'boxer-puncher' is getting out of fashion on these boards. The new gen doesn't seem to be comfortable with the term, 70% categorizes a fighter either 'boxer' or 'puncher'.
Man, the Devon hype sure got quiet, eh? Two lackluster performances in a row will do that to a guy though.
