Just wondering what peeps thought about young CW Matty Askin. I have been impressed with him in his 1st 8 fights(havnt seen his TKO win from last night yet) ive seen about 7 of his fights on sky or you tube. He's looked a very good prospect to me so far- and i've been impressed with his confidence/attitude in the interviews with him ive watched. In a fairly weak domestic division, I think hes ready to challenge for British title in his next fight or 2. Do you think hes ready for British? How far do you think he can go?
cant see him progressing past domestic level, he neglected the jab and smothered his work and his punch variety was poor to say the least. not sold on hin at all...
Never seen him before last night. Thought he was relatively heavy handed, but relied too much on that, and was beaten to the punch too often. He can clearly put punches together though, and it may be a case of building up to better form as his career progresses. Power can very often carry you through at central level, but he will need to be more adaptable and more active during a fight to progress. I think he might have that in his locker though
Thanks for the replies/opinions Brummy/Avid I know its early days and i'm sure as you say he has things he needs to improve on. I think he has talent -good speed for a CW- Good combo's and decent power. And also has a mean streak and from what i've heard from him he seems very determined/focused to go as far as can. time will tell. I'll be bold and say I think he'll get at least to top euro level-maybe beyond!
I doubt it unless he improves his defence and the way he sets up his power punches. He's a bit too telegraphed and easy to hit. There are a lot of good European fighters in this division.
Imo Stephen Simmons would stop both the guys from last night,just give him 6-9 months and he'll be ready to let off the leash.
1st time id seen him last night and TBH after what id read was expecting more he improved a little as the fight went on but the european level at cruiser is high,i think British will be his limit which is still a quality achievement IMO.
I was not as impressed. He left out many fundamentals and had alot of trouble in moments against a less than decent opponant. Sometimes he seemed confused. His hand speed isnt great, his accurasy is lacking and he is an ok puncher. So all together its too early to talk about imo.
Nice to see dawson back,i remember a war he had with scouser called moran, think it was mark.Proper up n downer at a jamie moore bill in altrincham yrs ago. Askin shows promise,like others have siad tho, telegraphs a little and needs to use jab more.good luck to him.
decent prospect, only 22...and cruiserweight division is pretty ****...he can go past british level imo, when he puts his punches together he looks very good.
He's still young and one to watch and is a good injection of talent to the UK domestic crusierweight scene which is pretty devoid of talent. Dawson was pretty decent too, hadn't seen him before. Would happily throw him in with Norton if hes still fighting, Dolan would be a good fight for him too. Rakhim Chakhkiev is the man to watch in this division though, big talent.
