Matty Askin: The Blackpool Assassin-The Brutish Bruising Cruiserweight Barnsley Bludgeoner.

Matthew Askin born 12/24/1988 is a 6'4 Cruiserweight with a 23-4-1 15 KO's record. Born in Barnsley, Yorkshire and fighting out of Blackpool, Lancashire, United Kingdom. Since turning pro In 08 Matty who at one time was considered a fairly decent prospect, after hooking up with Hatton back in 09, has been through his fair share of ups & downs, tasting defeat not once but thrice, the first loss was against Brit cruiserweight Jon-Lewis Dickenson, which may have been a case of too much too soon, then he tasted defeat at the hands of the tough as nails Krzysztof Glowacki, by way of savage body shot, but it was late, and he was hanging tough throughout, and performed admirably. The third loss on his ledger was a controversial one, in a match against the beloved Ovill McKenzie, he was deducted 2 points by the ref, affecting the outcome on one judges scorecard swinging it from a win to a draw for Askin, the other two it would have been a near draw as well. But instead of tucking his tail between his legs and giving up, he's hunkered down, worked on his craft & improved immensely as a pro, recently dominating two highly touted British prospects in Tommy McCarthy and Craig Kennedy, & put a cherry on top, by annihilating in 2 rounds the usually fairly durable Stephen Simmons. Matty has picked himself up by the bootstraps and asserted himself as the top Cruiser in the UK, whether people want to admit it or not. In all likelihood he demolishes hype jobs Lawrence Okolie and Isaac Chamberlain at this point as well, both men should be kept as far as possible away from The Butcher Of Blackpool. He's slowly become one of my favorite Cruiserweights to watch, & that's saying something in a division that's stacked with such beasts, not sure how well he'll fare at world level, but he's definitely capable upsetting an apple cart or two, bring on Glowacki-Askin II. Can Matty compete at the world level or in spite of his recent successes is he still domestic level?

 

When someone is terrified of being punched by a 90 year old Steve Cunningham, that's not a good sign. Tabiti is pretty average in every way.

 

Not even sure about that, Tabiti is around Craig Kennedy or Tommy McCarthy level, Matty has gotten fairly good at cutting off the ring, I'd give Matty a shot at stopping him.

 

Which of the top guys do you think he could beat?

 

I posted this last night on the RBR.

How is it that one man grabs and hugs another man for 12 rounds straight, neither of them landing more than 6 or 7 clean punches between them, with one far more at fault than the other, with even the ref docking him 3 points. Literally nothing to separate them except for inside work, which Askin clearly got the better of. Yet all the judges saw it close to a shutout for Okolie? That was beyond sickening to see a man robbed of his title in a match where his opponent fought such a deplorable fight he deserved to be DQ'd, that was damn near impossible to score for any sane judge. Yet they all seemed to be in agreement, weren't even dissuaded in the least by the annoyed ref clearly calling it like he sees it. Boxing really needs to find a feasible alternative to scoring fights, that avoids human error and blatant corruption.
