Maybe you should remember that 3 judges have to see a clean blow, meeting all the criteria, and press for it within a 1 second window. And also remember that the view you have on TV is different from the view they have at Ringside.

The amateur scoring does seem a bit strange. But as Kolya says, 3 of 5 judges have to agree to it being a scoring shot (that means they have to land in the right area, with the right part of the gloves and with adequate power) and all have to respond within 1 second of each other.

Ringside has its cons. Only one angle of view, and the ref could be blocking ****.

Anybody got vids of this russian guy? In action in the olympics? I saw one yesterday, he was wearing red. Could be this guy because he was awesome.

Is Shiming the Chinese guy that slaps a couple points early then runs for the next 3 1/2 rounds?

Possibly a bit harsh but I'm fairly sure he's the guy you're thinking of.
He's not one for standing his ground and landing power shits anyway.

He's very good at what he does, but he'd make a terrible pro.

    Alexey Tischenko (RUS)
    Zou Shiming (CHN)
    Manus Boonjumnong (THA)
    Bakhtiar Artayev (KAZ)
    Serik Sapiyev (KAZ)
    Roberto Cammarelle (ITA)
    Matvei Korobov (RUS)
    Albert Selimov (RUS)
    Abbos Atoyev (UZB)
    Clemente Russo (ITA)

Those are the best pound for pund fighter in amateur rankings right now. But at least one of them already lost in the olimpics game

Matvey Korobov is fighting 2004 Gold Medalist Bakhtiar Artayev in his next fight. Should be a great test for him, Korobov beat him last year.

He and a few other amateur stars form asia and europe will never see the pro ranks, they only fight to win gold medals a la Cuba, but if any of them goes pro they don;t know how fight like a pro and becomes a bad underchiever

It wasn't. They were Light Heavies and the winner was a Croatian.
