The Dallas Morning News had a nice notation in the Sports Page just last week, commending
Hooker for winning the Jr Welterweight title.....and then things go south.

    Per Dallas Morning News (7/11/18)
Dallas Oak Cliff's Maurice Hooker, recent boxing champion, arrested, charged with DWI

A local boxer who recently picked up a major world championship belt was arrested Tuesday in Dallas after an accident involving multiple police cars.

Maurice Hooker was booked Tuesday morning and charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated and misdemeanor unlawful possession of a handgun, according to Dallas County court records. He posted bond on both charges.

According to the arrest affidavit, Hooker was allegedly spotted speeding on Interstate 35E around 1:50 a.m. While he was being followed by one Dallas police car, Hooker crashed into a squad car ahead of him that was being used to redirect traffic in a construction area around Empire Central Drive.

The car following Hooker collided with another unoccupied police vehicle at the construction site, the document said. Two officers were hospitalized. One suffered a broken arm, while the other had no major injuries.

Hooker, 28, is fresh off his first major title victory. Last month, Hooker (24-0, 16 KOs) traveled to England and beat Terry Flanagan in a split decision to win the WBO's super lightweight title. It was Flanagan's first career loss.

Hooker admitted to officers he was drinking before the multi-car accident and declined a breathalyzer test, according to the police report. Hooker and his brother, who was listed as a passenger in the vehicle, did not suffer any serious injuries.

He currently does not have an upcoming fight scheduled.

Staff writer Tasha Tsiaperas contributed to this report.

In the era of Uber, there's no excuse for putting people's lives at risk and driving drunk (or even buzzed).

Years ago as an 19 yr old a gang of us .borrowed a guys 5 month old car to go to a party. One guy promised not to drink & he would do the driving. Last thing I remember is dancing with this gorgeous girl & her saying" Look at your so called sober driver passed out on the floor" Next thing I knew my Dad was waking me up at noon the next day asking : Whos car is that parked outside" Id apparently driven the car back & taken all the other guys home in the dead of winter on icy roads & to this day cannot remember doing it. I can tell you it scared me to death I could have killed us all & possibly other innocent people too. Someone was watching over us that night I never ever did it again Its been Drink don't drive or Drive don't drink for me. I learned my lesson

Sage advice ^^. Most of us all have pulled some stupid stuff about "drinking & driving", and are lucky a truly bad event didn't occur.

You say that about cops but think about this. One of the guys in gyms brother is a cop. He and his partner were refused service in a fast food joint because they were in uniform. Few days later the joint was robbed at gunpoint.
Owner complained that it took the cops way too long to respond when he called 911 LOL Maybe the cops thought they weren't welcome at his joint seeing as they were in uniform. Wonder if he realizes that?????? He needs to

Pretty much this. There's no excuse when you have something to lose.
