He lacked charisma, eye pleasing style, and power.

 

That indeed sometimes is the difference between a completely protected fighter and a fighter that has none at all, and viewed that way by most of the fans even.
Usually guys from outside the big countries suffer from this more, as I always like to mention Campillo who got stamped a "bum" when he got KO'd by Kovalev, while at the same time the guy who had his belts got treated as a legend (he is, but that's besides the point).
Other way around, I remember Fernando "most gifted boxer" Guerrero getting mentioned as a strong win for Quillin at the time, while he basically was nothing but a gatekeeper who should have had a 21-5 record instead of 25-1 when they faced eachother. Lemieux basically ended the smoke and mirrors shortly after, but they even handed him another gift even after that.
His record ended 28-4, but could easily have been 22-10 without all the protection going on.
Then there's the well documented case of Broner...

The hell is up with Mauricio's BoxRec pic? That doesn't look like him at all. One, dude looks ultra white. And two, it looks like the mug shot of a registered sex offender from Sandusky, Ohio.

I remember Grady Brewer annihilating him on FNF. I think Brewer at the time was training himself out of his garage.
But people kept praising Guerrero afterwards. Quilling and Lemmy got way too much praise for beating him.

 

I actually predicted the Brewer TKO win in Kirk's thread back in the day, due to his form and style I expected him to be all over the vastly overrated Guerrero. It was surreal to witness how a fabricated record combined with a flashy style could fool so many actual boxing fans.

 

In boxing it’s not only who you know, but more importantly who / how many knows you.

His actual boxing IQ and ability are 0.

He pulled out a great win against undefeated Provodnikov in a brutal fight. If he wan't as hard as nails he would have lost that fight.
