Mauricio Herrera is a 5'7.5 35 year old Light Welerweight with a 21-5 7 KO's record. Born in Lake Elsinore, California, USA and fighting out of Riverside, California, USA. Mauricio Herrera in my opinion is one of the most underrated boxers in the world and one of the more entertaining as well, considering he's as feather fisted as he is. He is absolutely brilliant at taking his opponents strengths away from them and when his opponents adjust he adjusts to their adjustments, yet there is hardly anyone in boxing with worst luck than he has with the judges. He works and works and works usually completely out classing his opponents yet he almost always get the shaft, because he's the eternal opponent who's never supposed to win yet he rarely follows the script and loves to overturn the apple cart and quite frankly his name should have been in contention for fighter of the year in 2014 but he was not only robbed once he was robbed twice. Mauricio Herrera was a virtual unkown to many people when he fought Danny because was rarely seen on TV. He fought Ruslan on FNF, before anyone knew who either one was. He fought Mayfield on the undercard of Abregu-Dulorme that wasn't a massive ratings success, and he fought Alvarado on the undercard of the Marquez-Fedchenko PPV probably the least anticipated PPV in HBO history, in fact people cared so little they replayed it and Rios-Abril on HBO Latino the next weekend. So he's easy to miss unless your a hardcore boxing fan. So anyone who actually saw these fights like me, knew Mauricio would be a bad style matchup and is basically impossible to KO, and that Danny would have a far harder night that he thought he was.

Herrera deserved the nod against Provo much like Algieri, he fought the fight with a grotesquely swollen eye, never went down though, and outworked and outjabbed Ruslan in close, unlike Algieri countering while moving back and to the side. It was a close fight but thankfully the judges weren't swayed by his eye damage. The fight with Alvarado was close to 2012's match of the year, it was a slugfest that once again he couldn't see out of one eye yet he went toe to toe, landing an almost equal amount of punches as Mike when Mike wasn't shot to hell. I thought the fight was closer than the judges gave him credit for, the one that scored it 96-94 for Alvarado was the most accurate. The Mayfield match was a messy hold fest that Herrera actually outlanded Mayfield in power punches and jabs, I thought it was a close fight as well I thought it should have been a draw, neither one looked great. The night was made to showcase at the time prospects Mayfield and Dulorme, Abregu spoiled the party for Dulorme and Herrera kind of exposed Mayfield. Both of whom have gone on to be beaten by Crawford and Emanuel Taylor.

So it didn't come as the slightest surprise when he outclassed Danny 9 to 3, and it has nothing to do with Danny being overrated it has everything to do with Mauricio being underrated. Danny is far from perfect with many flaws to be exploited and Herrera unfazed by Danny's power, laid the blueprint for all others to follow and took Danny's soul from him and along with that his confidence. Still Danny is real good at a lot, but great at nothing, still he has decent skills, and he didn't turn to s*** overnight, Lucas and Danny didn't ruin each other, he was the legit LWW champ and was schooled by a better fighter. it doesn't mean Danny is a joke or washed up, he's still a very good fighter, he's just not as good a El Maestro. And he followed up that year by exposing Johan Perez a basically undefeated prospect and claim another scalp of one of at the time best prospects in the sport in Jose Benavidez Jr. yet he was brutally robbed again, Herrera should be considered one of if not the top fighter at LWW yet his name is rarely mentioned in the discussion. Herrera is a vastly underrated fighter and by saying Danny is now a joke because he lost to him, it does a big disservice to Herrera's win he was robbed of. So Lets honor the The Maestro Spoiler Of Riverside..:bbb:bbb:bbb:bbb

I've wanted to do a thread on the real lineal Champ for awhile, but until now most of his work was on Dailymotion. But thanks to the administrators that's no longer an impediment.:happy:happy

Herrera is a truly great fighter riding a very good 5 fight win streak against stiff competition.
