And this is the new phase of Matchroom Boxing summed up. Admittedly huge box office fights (Canelo, AJ) which no doubt fill up the kitty; DAZN then needs other shows to fill up the schedule and Hearn's promotional skill makes mediocre boxing seem relevant.

This isn't a criticism of Matchroom, you kind of admire how they could make kebab shop fights sound like Ali-Frazier 4.

Wood Warrington is a lot more interesting than Lara Wood III. Warrington's performance against Lopez looks a lot better now Lopez flattened Conlan. It's an all British world title fight, people like to complain about anything if it's related to Matchroom.

Interestingly, including the Taylor card, Matchroom will have staged 10 shows in the UK and Ireland this year up until July 29, 5 of which headlined by World Title fights and none on PPV.

 

Who’s asked for Wood Lara 3? I’m saying why does Warrington keep getting gifted title shots. Got chinned by Lara and headbutted his way out of the rematch then fights for the same IBF belt he vacated a year before to avoid his mandatory in his very next fight. Few months down the line he loses to Lopez and his next fight will probably be a world title fight.

Nobody has asked how many shows Matchroom have done this year either, what’s that got to do with Wood vs Lara

I can happily answer that question, it’s old friend DS deflecting yet again, spouting some rubbish that none of us are interested in about how amazing his favourite bunch of accountants from Essex are. Absolutely mind boggling and plain weird.

 

This is the debate IMHO. Warrington is living on past glory and his ability to shift tickets - which outside of a British title fight like this, would now be pretty questionable.

I've nothing against this fight but won't be desperate to watch it; I will avoid the likes of Bunce's podcast slabbering over Warrington during fight week though.

 

My mates a massive Leeds fan and during the Selby/Frampton time they were mad for him and had been promised an American trip but it never materialised and now he says the novelty has worn off. He didn’t even know he was fighting when he fought Lopez.

 

Yep. Four years, a bit of bravado (giving up the mandatory in hope of that Vegas trip) and a couple of losses must have dented the attraction. To be honest I never saw it in the first place, although the Selby and Frampton wins were decent.

 

Can def believe that, he kept banging on and on about a Vegas trip again and again and the fans quite rightly got sick of it.

I find Warrington quite unlikeable tbh.

 

Was it a “brilliant” performance by Wood as everyone says? Not so sure myself, to me it looked like he didn’t have to do much other than get behind his jab and tie Lara up the few occasions he came rushing in. Absolute zero ring IQ from Lara, didn’t look like he cared one iota. Lost the belt…and the fight on the scale.
