I hate to defend the WBA ever but this appears to be a rule of theirs and actually a good one.

    https://www.wbaboxing.com/box-medical-articles/weigh-in-time-for-the-boxer

Of course it isn't in the rules they publish online but I've seen it for other fights, for instance I believe Teofimo and Loma posted pictures from their early weigh-in.

I believe there is a preliminary weigh-in 5 days before a fight where a fighter has to be within a certain range of the target weight.

It's really a good idea because you can't follow fighters 24/7 to make sure they aren't doing crazy dehydration stuff to get under the bar.

Wouldn't having Lara cut weight be to Wood's advantage? It seems like they're helping Lara here. Ultimately people look at the headline numbers of a record and forget about this kind of stuff after the fight is over.

In his homecoming fight in Mexico they pulled the "contract weight" thing when he showed up overweight. Unsurprisingly, his opponent hadn't gotten the news beforehand and showed up at 126.

In Mexico he was was fighting at whatever-weight, meticulous weight planning is pretty new to him.

This is being presented as a BBBofC decision but I am almost 100% sure the source of the rule is the WBA. I guess BBBofC is just enforcing it.

I highly doubt it's a WBA rule. The sauna stunt they pulled with Casimero certainly wasn't an WBO rule. It's their own. Very few people cared about the Casimero situation because he is unlikable, but they screwed him.

There's no conspiracy and Lara knows he must make weight safely. There's also precedent.

From BBoC doctor in 2018: "We have strict guidelines on the rate of weight loss over a period of time and also the amount of fluid that we will sanction people losing at the end to make weight (two per cent). The fighters know that and they know where they are on the weight cut at all times." https://britishboxingnews.co.uk/blo...ctor-on-the-dangers-of-extreme-weight-cutting

Also, Paul/Rahman got cancelled because Rahman wasn't going to be allowed to do a dangerous cut.

There is one person to blame here - Lara.

I havent looked into it. Why i stated “if” . If that is not published then its total BS cause they are then making up the rule on the fly.

It's amazing how awful the BBBoC really is. They managed to find a way to screw both fighters at the same time. It's just awe-inspiring incompetence.

Oh, that changes things a bit.
But it´s still unfair to Wood. He had to make the weight while Lara got a pass.

This just proves we need same day weigh-ins back.

    From the WBA:
They have nothing about how much a fighter can weigh days before the official weigh-in(like the WBC). This was the BBBofC doing their pre weigh-in medical and they decided Lara was risking his health.

I am pretty certain the WBA had no say in this.

The last time Lara was on hallowed British soil he spat at Josh Warrington after scoring that lucky shot KO against Wood. And then the first thing he does when he comes back is miss weight by 4lbs? Are you kidding me?! And I like Lara too. Get up to bloody 130 if you can't make weight you lazy *******.

We don't play those games over here. We make weight. I don't remember a British fighter losing their world title on the scales. Same goes for EE fighters too. Why? Professionalism.

    Shannon Courtenay.

Lara wasn’t even allowed to make the weight.

    For his own safety?

The bbbofc title wasn't on the line. They simply sanction the fight if it takes place in Britain. It wouldn't be unheard of for the WBA to stipulate a fighter must weigh "x" amount at several check weigh in throughout camp

WBA don´t have that rule either.
