Max Baer chops down towering fraud Primo Carnera

Its shameful what the ref let Baer get away with in order to bring the title back to the United States. Its asinine to suggest he was a fraud by the time he won the title.

 

Baer often looks worse on film than Carnera tbh. After the first knockdown Carnera badly rolls his ankle. pictures of Carnera in a hospital with a cast on do exist. The fact it took Max 11 more rounds to finish a wounded duck - a duck that supposedly was a fraud too- doesn’t say much for Baer’s finishing ability.
While I still rate Baer better than Carnera I would say that Baer tends to be overrated while Carnera is underrated

 

To be fair, some reports say Baer purposely prolonged the bout because he found the whole thing hilarious.

 

Can you imagine if Ali and RJJ had been the same size as Primo?!!!!

The point is that being technically unorthodox, does not necessarily mean you are not good, or even set a ceiling to how good you could be.

 

Yeah and Carnera did so far making mistakes because he was huge, fast for his size, mobile and had great conditioning.
