Baer in place of Marciano ,challenging the one and only Jersey Joe Walcott . The Baer that smashed Primo ,could he beat the canny Walcott ?? He's 15 rounds to do it in .
I guess he could land big punch and win the fight, but the majority of time I see Walcott winning an easy decision.
I don't see max finding the magic Punch as Rock did .Obviously he's dangerous through out .If he asses about then Jersey has a field day and get s a wide decision. But Joe can't be to laid back ,not against a puncher like Max .
I agree with you. He should ,on paper at least beat Walcott .But putting together Max's over confident, tendency's to clown ,and Walcott s sheer determination in the first Rocky ft ,then Jersey gets the win .
Not so much better, as more appropriate to defeating Walcott. Baer was less of a pure pressure fighter, and worked on the outside more, which would have given Walcott room to implement his game.
Very true. It would be like the Braddock fight all over again ,in terms of max being unable to get his foot in the door .
Baer, unlike Marciano, would have gotten more and more discouraged as the rounds went by.....and would have lost on points to the champ.
If twitching your pecs and smiling while doing it wins you the title, Max's got this in the bag. If not, the carnival hailmary swings aren't going to get the job done.
Max was wide open for a good counter-puncher and Walcott was one of the best. Jersey Joe on a wide 15 round decision.
