Max Baer hit harder than...

At least three common opponents said that Baer hit harder than Louis.

 

Baer with the right was the hardest hitter....when it wasnt too badly injured

 

How big one has to be to hit so hard no one could survive his punch is intriguing and not obvious off boxing history.

I remember reading an article years ago from a physics professor analyzing boxing and coming up with the theory that having longer arms dissipates the power advantage a big man should have. His theory was that a punch has more force the closer it is to where it is launched. So short punches are more devastating than long ones. Who knows? Definitely over my physics pay grade. But the implication is that a relatively smaller man might punch well above his weight.

It is all theoretical but interesting speculation. Some might jump to the conclusion that a 240 lb man has a 33% advantage in power over a 180 lb. man, or a 20% advantage over a 200 lb. man. Boxing history through the years doesn't support that though in my estimation.

 

You forgot about the other obsession, David Tua.

 

Cleveland William's power was more in his left hand than his right, I'd say Cleveland had a more devastating left hook than baer but bear had a much more terrifying overhand right hand than big cat, but shavers had probably the most terrifying right hand of all time.

Its not that he hit him with plenty before....How many of that did he miss, until it finally happened? And Comiskey offered an exchange from the beginning. After the third attamept, with no count from the ref, he mannaged to finish him.

Whatever fight you watch of Baer, he looks just uncoordinated, unbalanced, wild swinging, no head movement, bad foot movement. He fought in rough spurts that worked on his smaller fighters that accepeted the challange. No jab. Someone who boxed defensively made him look even more sloppy.

So are we judging power or techinque here? Baer stopped big strong puncher in one round, how could you expect more from him?
Comiskey was stopped only once after this fight, he was very durable fighter.

This guy was stopped 4 times in almost 2 times less fights than Comiskey....

Baer beat many big fighters. You are clueless about his career.

Even in one of his few early stoppages Baer looked like always: trash. Btw, aren´t you cherrypicking this win? Were are the other fellows Baer stopped early? 187lb Scholz? 190lb 2-01 Murphy that he fought after Galento? 186lb Weimer? 168lb Dunn that he fought a year after Louis? WTF? 185lb Owens?

This guy went 9 with Vitali, 12 with Rahman and 9 with Grant. Thats his losses. 21 rounds with two big punchers and the SHW giant. Of course thats the same then fighting nobody like Comiskey and getting stopped by 192lb 18-2 Flakes in 5, who stopped his career the same yaer. A fighter everybody knows, lol. WTF are trying to sell here?

Clueless? I have enough clue about what he did on film, beside fighting guys on the debut and absolute trash beeing a flull grown fighter.
Where are the big fighters he stopped? 187lb Scholz? 190lb 2-01 Murphy that he fought after Galento? 186lb Weimer? 168lb Dunn that he fought a year after Louis? WTF? 185lb Owens? Any 6'3" 250lb Sullivans here? Any future champs here getting massacred in 1 round? Any past-it champs like Moorer who got polaxed in a rounds? Any further stoppages of 230lb men? Want to compare who stopped more big men early, Tua or Baer?

The similarity is that Byrd would be an ATG in Baers day, and he would be a BIG fellow too. Open your goddamn eyes and use your brain.....

 

Who cares how he looked? He won these fights in brutal fashion.

Baer didn't have a lot of early KOs because he was sloppy, not because he lacked power.

Rahman was a big puncher? Really? Vitali wasn't an early KO artist, he stopped his opponents with volume after tiring them.
Comiskey wasn't a nobody, certainly not to fighter you compare him to.

Max hit hard. No doubt s. He's up there with the best.

 

Yeah I just do not believe that Machine Gun Kelly hits harder than massive professional athletes.
Although sometimes guys do better due to taking several steps & a wind up: & others do not.
For example the hardest throwers in baseball are usually pitchers.
BUT fielders have thrown even faster because running up a few steps produces more force than a standing wind up from a pitching mound.

However no, a skinnt guy like Kelly is not throwing harder than anyone at any size.
Even if he could hit as hard as a great lighter boxer with a similar build-like Hearns-Tommy as a WW or MW would have been lucky to be a decent HW puncher. Let alone hit harder than anyone.

Janitor once wrote that he saw girls getting a high score by just slapping the machines!
They are ducious at measuring pure force, instead of speed & whatever else.
FOr example Ali seemed to have the fastest HW punch, one measured at an insane 2/1000s of a second.
Think that punch or any of his lightning jabs carried near the force of a great HW puncher?
Their speed was its own virtue, & when he sat down on punches he had decent power...

But speed without transmitting weight & power through the whole kinetic chain does not guarantee anything.
Oh as for the question at hand...I would say they all were pretty similar.
Liston an example of mechanics, body type & heavy/large hands delivering power more than his speed.

As said already, Baer reminds me of Wilder in style & build.
Given the combination of expolsiveness, arm length/fist size, mechanics, passion & natural ability-& confirmed by virttually everyone he shared a ring with that he was #1...
He probably hit hardest.

 

Absolutely not. There is no way a lanky singer who never took a single boxing class or learned how to throw properly, shift his weight, and snap with his blows hits harder than veteran boxers that have 40 lbs of muscle over him.

The punching machine is obviously extremely flawed.

 

Explain this please. Where did you get that from?
