How far does Max Baer get against the lineup of Martin, Bonavena, Quarry, Patterson, and Frazier in the tournament that crowned a successor to Ali? Could he get as far as Ellis (up to Frazier), not as far as Ellis, or does he actually beat Frazier to win the crown?

I think he beats them all except Frazier. Some were better technical boxers but I believe Baer's size, chin, and punch would enable him to prevail. I'd give Patterson an outside chance of outpointing him, but I'd be holding my breath the whole time. Against Frazier I would give him a puncher's chance.

I voted for him losing to quarry given that I think Jerry did very well against lumbering come forward type punchers. But in truth Max Baer would have had a good punchers chance against all those guys

    KO's Martin

    Decisions Bonavena

Baer likely stops Quarry, but might be behind on points. Baer could possibly lose this one and I only slightly favor him. Quarry had a bad habit of abandoning his skill to mix it up with guys stronger than him and also had a tendency to cut.

Likely loses to Patterson. I'd favor Patterson 6:4 but anything could happen. Baer was a little too sloppy and didn't use his height and reach to his advantage enough to make it count for this matchup. Patterson blazing hands and high ring IQ give him major advantages. Unless Patterson gets caught with something big or gets careless, he could take it more often than not.

Dude was so inconsistent, that it borders on random.

A lot would depend upon who he drew, and which version of Baer turned up, but he could conceivably win it.

Quarry and Ellis would be the dangermen for him.

I would actually give Baer a fair chance of beating Frazier based on styles.

You would probably end up taking Frazier's consistency, over Baer's inconsistency, but on paper Baer has got what it takes.

I don’t think Baer was that good he does nothing for me.
A granite chin and big right hand is about all he’s got.
He could lose to them all but would have the proverbial punchers chance.

i wouldnt be surprised if Baer lost to all of them.

From footage i have seen vs Schmeling, Louis, Braddock, Carnera, Galento etc his skills are so poor and his punches so telegraphed I doubt he would have beaten the likes of Francesco Damiani or Quick Tillis

I would, because if he loses to one of them, then he doesn't advance in the tournament!

A motivated, well trained Baer could conceivably win the tournament and then beat Frazier. (Frazier may rank higher overall, but styles are definitely against him.) The main problem for Baer's people here is getting him to be well trained for that many fights in a row. If he slacks off, and turns his training camp into one big party, Ellis could beat him.

It is surely in everybody's interests for Baer to sweep the field.

Can you imagine an Ali Baer press conference?

If held in 2022, this match up might even call for 2 pay per views. $15 for the Press Conference/Weigh-in, and then $75 for the actual fight.

How does Baer have stylistic advantages over Frazier?

Please don't say slugger vs swarmer because Baer lacks an uppercut and fights nothing like Foreman.
